Tyla 3,179
Right, i've made loads of purse nets but fancied doing a stop net. I've started at 25 meshes deep, done 1.5 metres, then mentioned it to Water Badger. He was surprised at the depth and when i thought about it it seemed alot to me too. Just looked it up on here and it appears to be 10 meshes too deep . I dont even know why it started so big, didnt even really think about it. Now, question is whether it'll be a problem in use, will it just need less bagging or will it just collect every twig for miles around? Should i continue or cut my losses, turn it into an enormous poke net or continue as it is? Cheers Quote Link to post
auld salmon 28
i would just finish it now and make others with only about 14 /15 deep theres one thing it should catch everything that hits it as there will be some bagging in it Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Cheers, just worried the extra will end up all over the floor? Would it be better with 50 or 75% bagging rather than 100% as it already got so much bagging in the height? Quote Link to post
The one 8,511
Id stop and see what else you can use it for theres no point in wasting twine ,12 to 14 meshes should be fine and its a pain but go for 100% bagging Quote Link to post

Would it be better with 50 or 75% bagging rather than 100% as it already got so much bagging in the height? there will be a lot over the floor but just put your top line up a bit to mabe 30ish high instead of 18 to 24 ish and would still put 100% bagging as one says as i think the more movement you have from left to right will tangle them better thats why i prefer the rabbits to hit them at an angle rather than head on as they tend to tangle up a bit easier and not bounce of if head on Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
14 half meshes+a top and bottom selvedge is what I prefer and I do like more net on the floor, angle your poles at 60degrees away from where the rabbits are and they will be on the net before they touch the suspended net and get tangled up in the net on the floor I'd carry on and possibly make it 15-20yds stop net which is a very handy size to have Good Luck Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
your only five mins from the beach forget the rabbits go get yourself some cod i could just keep on going and make a seine net lol. I think i will turn it into a two metre stop net/gate net then knit one the right size for my 10m one. Live and learn i suppose, thanks for all the tips Edited February 6, 2011 by Tyla Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
Carry on with it to 10mts may take time but its all practise and experience and it will be worth it IMHO Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
