He was a natural at marking burrows, if he showed no interest in any holes then believe me there was nothing at home!! On the downside he hated black labs and alsations would scrap with any he saw! Nothing else worried him and he was stock safe just hated both those breeds!! Quote Link to post

Nothing else worried him and he was stock safe just hated both those breeds!! hi, ive got a 2 year old patterdale but hes never worked...im just wondering how you went on teaching a matured dog to be ok with your ferrets..when i eventually get my ferrets i would love to use my patterdale to mark .. which he is good at due to me taking him on the farms for walks when im scouting them out.. and would love it if he grabbed the rabbit in the net till i got to it like i see alot of dogs do.. but leave the ferret Quote Link to post

As already stated.....Dogs mark in different ways......stare/ some dig/ some try to crawl into the hole.....i even seen one who used to cock his leg and piss. My Young ACD cross just stares at the hole and will look back at me as if to say get the Ferrets in......they are at home. If out with the Terriers and Foxy is at home......same stare but with his hackles up A marking Dog is a MUST regardless of what breed it is for Ferreting otherwise you are going to be constantly Ferreting EMPTY places If he/she is still a Pup ???? just keep your Ferreting sessions short and sweet and the Pup will learn Quote Link to post
