all animals are born but its bloodlines and good breeding and good dog manship that counts look at the amount of twats on here get rid of dogs young, or give up and sell or dont work there dogs what chance do dogs have ,not much you got to get up and put game in front of them and then breeding and entering comes through and idiot will not make a well bred dog good and not consistintly have decent animals no matter were there born , how much shits bred and how much tried and tested is bred and how many make it not everyone hence the cat and dog homes wouldnt be full of lurchers ,a dog has to be bred of workers worked by hunters then he has agood chance not just born

i have a first cross collie greyhound, thats 8 years old. its taken me 6 years to get him to walk at heel off the lead , including whilst lamping ie not using a slip. he has been a b*****d to train.

To be honest my dogs won't even see a rabbit let alone any other critter at 7/8 months S/Handed so it would be foolish to say it will or won't make the standard i ask of my dogs at that age?,i ain't a

in my experience pups have got to be pups, let them grow up in their own time, the lessons they learn will stick better, their experiences good and bad are what makes them, a big heavy made dog can be 2yr old before its physically and mentally mature, a lighter made dog finds its feet and confidence often well under a yr old, how many tales have we all heard about a useless jibber retired to be a family pet that gets a second chance at even 3 or 4 yr old and becomes useful? patience young grasshopper and when things still dont go quite right even more patience

after reading all those great dogs when do youse lads give up on a dog or no when its not going to make the grade as a working lurcher or all round game catcher me personaly if it doesnt shine at least ayear to 14 months plan b last 2 pups i bred were on the ball at one year old and catching allsorts by the time the stubbles were cut how many chances do you give a dog me personaly half a dozen if its not connecting ive made a bloomer , lucky i only bred my own or of tried and tested stock ,i no some can train adog better and no how to enter them better and have acsess to better land but what about it , all the good dogs ive had anfd others have been at the game and you can see the potentional as youngsters 7 or 8 months onwards what do youse think

depends on breed imo, salx take longer,

lurchers will catch loads younger, when i first started i had a dog that wouldnt catch anything if they were in a phone box, used to run it silly, 10 runs a night, at about 3 yrs old my bro in laws dog got cross it, had pups then was smashing 4s and 5s in day, and up to 20 rabbits on lamp, no lead, best dog i ever had. the pup i kept put that litter i still got hes 11, second best dog i had, i would probably get rid of a dog now that couldnt catch after running hares at 2 yr old. just got rid of two dog pups they were 2yr old, and they actually caught a few, but i think everyones looking for the world beaters.

My mate has a bullx at 9 mth and wont enter it to reduns yet, but imo better know how tough he is now, but its different, that bullx wont run daytime hares, depends on quarry and breed and individuals needs/patience. did you know that toby 'the hoover' didnt catch a hare till he was two yr old? my mate ran with his owner. so its gospel truth.

Good dogs are born, not made but the trouble is you dont really know untill the end of its second season unless it is a real stinker.............JMHO

I disagree with that I believe its down to what the dog experiences and the amount of game it has access too. The owner has a big part to play in how the dog turns out...JMHO

Agree 100 percent Undi.
