cacher you mabye dont understand the question or the ansewr ,if a dog doesnt show keenes and heart and willingness to get in on the act without to much fussin they dont usaly become world beaters al the best dogs ive had were wild and willing as young pups were the quiter ones were not in the same league at times i like forward pups that rake about and keen to get out etc by 7 months there getting to get there feet together by twelve months there even more ready and have tasted game especailyif the feilds are not long cut ,every bodie has there own way but feck waiting for 2 years to put game in the bag

 

 

Whin you seem to know your dogs.And if you think one is no good at 7 or 8 month Thats up to you mate.Who am i to tell you otherwise.Its this it did not make the grade that has me baffled.You say 7 or 8 month other 4 or 5 years.I owned a collie/grey/whippet pre ban.Never took its fist hare until 18 month daytime after that there was no stoping it.Took its first daytime roe three month later.Reading some of the topics that dog would have been passed on.Or put to sleep after sixteen month(did not make the grade)For some the grade doset allways have to be perfection that would just be silly and many good dogs would go to waste.atb. CATCHER,I THINK WHAT HES TRYING TO SAY IS,DID YOU SEE SOMETHING IN THE DOG YOU SPEAK OF BEFORE IT KICKED ON, I LIKE TO TAKE A BITCH OUT THE BACK END OF 10 MONTH AND HOPE SHE SHOWS ME SOMETHING,GIVE HER A TEST(NOT OVER DOING IT)SHOW ME SOMETHING.BUT IF SHE DOESNT.NO HARM ,PUT HER BACK ON THE SHELF FOR A BIT AND TRY AGAIN.AND IF SHE DOES SHOW,SHE STILL GOES BACK ON THE SHELF FOR A BIT.ALTHOUGH EVERY SPARE MINUTE IS SPENT DOING THE BASICS.

If my dogs dont show any promise by their 8 and 3/4 year then its a 4x4 across the napper I like to spend the 1st 4yrs trying to stare the dog out if it blinks then its a bad'n'. The next big thing in lurchers will be ninja poodles trust me

 

Getting a little pre litter advertising going? Sneaky but worked a treat on me. When them Ninja poodles ready I'll take one on the proviso it's showing at least a little promise at 8 weeks and blinking.....

I wouldn't be making any major judgements until it was fully grown both physically and mentally sometimes it might take the penny longer to drop, as long as it ain't applying the brakes on stuff or showing no interest, I'd also have to look at myself and chew over my input etc before making any final decsision

 

Had my lamper apply the ABS the other week it was gut wrenching to be honest :sick: , luckily what she pulled up on is of very little interest to me personaly wouldn't consider writing her off though, cause she very good at other stuff, plus she really nice dog just to have around the place

 

I just accept it as it is , would just have it around me as pet , in my view they all work to some extent.

Having had my dog from a pup, and building a bond would be to gut renching to get rid.

Or am i to soft?

to true bendrover and exactly what i mean , catcher your not getting my drift when im out with dog or pup there out ferreting as babes , watching sniffing getting the odd netted rabbs once i see a bit keeness back to just out a walk and maybe the odd fetch then as thye get ten months they get out for more lamping etc then more ferreting then if there strong enough on to bigger and better but al the time im looking at it for any sings that its getting to much,by twelve months if its in him her it lle be coming out them ,its not failed me yet and by time the corns cut they get tallyo al dogs mature diffrent had some took 14 months all depends when corns cut, as its all arable i hunt no nice grassy patches etc hard dry stubble winter wheat a bit rape ,only had one dog in years to need more time but by 15 months got her feet to gether ,heavier bitch needed to muscle up more ,people who give dogs 2 3 4 years there not going to get there at that age,most decent bred pupds are game for sport at 14 months if get the chances, maybe im wrong and expect to much ,

only 100 yards from the woods.So getting the dogs out regular is no problem.

ye im surrounde with 60 acers feilds but you have to walk for it as the more open the more sparsley the game are as there plenty areas for them to get about ,but great sport and can test a dog ,the gut down south has abig bloned saluk type like yours he has took after tyne very clever good feet and easy trained ,the black bitch and white bitch i have is like her mother go go go ,but goood natural fetcher of game and good at the bolting rabbs etc and a bit of dayl;ite so happy with her don enot to bad with the pups iv ebred all doing whats asked mayb ebreed one more this summer thatll do me for a while as they age quick on big land with punishing runs some times , had some good sport

I disagree with that I believe its down to what the dog experiences and the amount of game it has access too. The owner has a big part to play in how the dog turns out...JMHO
