BEARINATOR 2,913
It's because there is loads of hunters in the woods shooting so they see it as being safer, some people put hi-vis dog jackets on their hounds for safety reasons as there is a few hounds shot when they are running the coyotes, there was 2 cases of dogs getting shot in the past 2 weeks on a coyote hunting site I'm on Quote Link to post

Sure you have the old saying from the second world war. When the Germans fired the Brittish ducked. When the Brittish fired the Germans ducked. When the yanks fired every fecker ducked. 1 Quote Link to post
swamp thang 16
Ha ha It should come as a relief to many to hear that not all Americans attended the Dick Cheney school of friendly fire quail hunting. On a serious note, I have often read that shooting accidents are actually MORE likely when the hunter is a seasoned stalker whose eye has been trained over the years to recognize fleeting glimpses of partially hidden deer, and to take a hopefully safe shot, knowing that the whole animal might not break cover and become clearly visible all at once. I recall sitting in a tree stand some years back down in the swamps, and staring intently for a full ten minutes at some shifting shadows down in the foliage, trying to decide whether another hunter was down there setting a snare, or if I was in fact seeing a massive, ultra-stealthy Sitatunga swamp antelope. I finally let fly when I saw the animal's ear swivelling about and straining to hear what must have been my pounding heart. Those US-regulation orange hunter's jackets do look ridiculous, but since most game species are color blind anyway, there is no doubt some life-saving method to that hunting wardrobe madness. 1 Quote Link to post

Not only in the US though, in Germany you have to by law wear an Orange jacket that covers at least 1/3 of the hunter if you are hunting in a group for instance driven Boar or Hare Edited February 4, 2011 by Hunting-top-shots Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
I'll tell you why, in america there's a lot of public hunting land and the seasons are very shory, now I'm not condoning theis but some people may be tempted into taking an unsafe shot, so the orange makes other hunters more visible, again if hunting on plaine, biiig wide open spaces so the bullet could go on for a long way if you miss, again the florescent orange hwlps you be sure of a safe shot and backstop. and since deer are colour blind anyway I think it's better to be safe than sorry, when we do a deer drive, walking guns and "beaters" wear Hi vis, again for that reason, as camo is so darn good these days, I think it's unfair to label all americans with the gung ho shoot-em-all tag, but I will say they really don't do themselves any facours with the fake camaraderie and shouts and punches in the air that you see on US hunting shows! swamp thang 16
And I'll punch the air to that. Quote Link to post
