ferretmad95:) 0
at some permission i have there is 3 large warrens with about 50 holes netted on each and about 40 foot long , i have currently only used 2 jills in them (only had a small box could only take 2)with minimal success. well on saterday i have a mate coming with his 3 ferrets and i will be taking 3 of mine and am just wondering how many of the 6 ferrets we are taking should we use in these large warrens? i have been told that if i put to many in there it increases the chances of a lay up because one of the ferrets bolting a rabbit into the jaws of another. could someone give me there oppinion on how many we should put in thanks. web22 27
3 or 4,if you use 2 or more the chances of a kill increase slightly but personally i expect to dig when i ferret anyway,it's better when i don't but i consider it part and parcel... Quote Link to post
The one 8,467
I allow one ferret for every ten holes and if there slow to bolt or the action slows down put in another one or two Quote Link to post
auld salmon 28
i would probably put them all down 40 ft warren is a big one for ferrets to chase rabbits around stop the bunnys giving the ferrets the run around but thats my opinion Quote Link to post

caterpiller 10
Put the lot in.......the quicker you get them Rabbits on the move the better Yes....there is a chance of a Dig or two but the quicker them Rabbits are bolting the better....saves time and reduces the chances of a Dig. Off out shortly myself to Ferret a new piece of permission.....myself and my Ferreting partner will have a Dozen Ferrets out between us. On the Big spots we Ferret together and pile the Ferrets in and get them on the move......had upto the full dozen in some big old places Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
theres allways a chance of a dig ,if you enter 1 or 6 on a large bury like that i would enter the 6 Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
It all depends mate what type of ferrets they are... How deep is the warren, you got shallow working ferrets, or do some go to the extreme. Are they holders, killers bolters... If your ferrets are good bolting ferreting you have a chance on all. Or if they kill and move on, then you may not recievbe as many rabbits on top but dispatch the rabbits much quicker.. I would imagine you will have a killer or 3 amonst them, so a dig would be inevitable. I have 2 ferrets which i rarely have to dig to. If the going is slow however, i enter the other 2 which do kill, and hold, then the dig is on... Quote Link to post
