huntsmanowz 11
hi ive just put my first lurcher down ive had him for 4 years but he was agressive to strangers and especially other dogs. i used to take him out lamping with his mother and father as they were the only dogs hed get along with. well now im going to see a 4month old bull x greyhound pup next week and want a little advise as this will be my first bull x greyhound. i am wondering what the temprement is like on them and also how easy they are to basic train them i.e sit and retrive to hand etc, as i dont want this one turning out to be the same otherwise she will be going the same way as there are children living next door. also at 4months old is she too old to stock train as shes never seen stock before and i am living on a 1000acre farm with cattle there is a sheep farm next door. any help would be much appreciated thanks owz Quote Link to post

hullhunter 219
temprement wise they are excellent as a rule. ive got 3, a 4 year old a 1 1/2 years old and a pup 18 weeks old ive had them all from a pup and they are all spot on with people and other dogs. they are good with my kids a 3 and 1 year old. they are good out side all day and good in the house at night.i very rarely have them on a lead they all walk by my side stop and sit at all roads, even when on the fields they will not run round unless i tell them to. no matter what they are doing if i say no they stop, they were all very easy to train. as said above not all will bring back live to hand one of mine dose the the other one wont bring them back live. i wouldnt say it is too late to stock train. if you dont want it to turn out like your last one socialize it with people and other dogs at EVERY opportunity you get. all the best with your pup. huntsmanowz 11
casso i know what your saying but ive had many dogs and all have been well. he was my first lurcher and yess i do feel responsible but he was attacked at 6months old by a labrador which didnt affect him straight away but about a month or 2 later he turnedim not saying it is but it could be due to this. anyway i do miss that dog greatly he was all i needed/wanted but looking to the future and i am worried slightly about this new bitch that i am getting next week. i am going to do alot more training with her as a pup plus im having her on the farm im working on with me so she will be socialising with a few other dogs and my fellow workers. i hope nothing goes wrong with this pup and i will definatly be trying some of the pointers mentioned oznblue - thats reasuring news i will put pics up as soon as i get her she is a very attractive pup and hopefully i will have some good times teaching her and taking her out on the lamp. if anyone else has any other info or pointers please feel free to comment thanks owz Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
Spot on Hullhunter Suss out the pups temperament before you make the commitment to take it. And try to suss out if the previous owners have 'fooked it up' at all. Listen to your head rather than your heart. As a general rule Bullies are very easy dogs to train, socialise, and are the biggest lovers of humans and children. I personally think 16wks is a lovely age to get a pup, just as they are starting to take things in and learn. Time before that is just time cleaning up poo lol. I've never had a bull start a fight with another dog, even if they dont like a certain dog, they would rather keep out of the way. But if provoked to the point they snap, they SNAP. That imho is the only downside of a bull. Quote Link to post
