zini 1,939
Hi lads, Well I went out shooting with Andy (Andy&Archie) this evening and had a real good time. Thanks Andy for looking after me and picking me up. You’re a real good friend buddy. Andy picked me up at 1700 hrs and then we went straight to his house for a lovely evening meal cooked by his lovely wife Adele (thanks Adele the food was fabulous). After a quality meal and a chat we set off to Andy’s permission. Soon after our arrival at Andy’s permission the mist and fog set in making visibility in some fields down to 5 metres for Andy’s NV scope and 20 metres for my red lamp. Battling through the mist and fog though and looking for the clearer fields we managed to shoot 5 nice rabbits from the comfort of Andy’s jeep. The ranges were from 20m to 34m max, nothing spectacular but good for the conditions I think. We missed quite a few rabbits each though due to poor range estimation not helped by the fog and using .22 calibre rifles at night. At gone 2300 hrs Andy dropped me off back at camp where I decided to go for a walk around and see if any rabbits were about on camp. After a quick check zero in the indoor 30 metre hanger due to me thinking maybe my zero had been knocked due the earlier 5 or 6 misses I found the Ultra to be smack on zero still proving my night time range estimation needs improving some what before my lamping bags get bigger. It was at this point that I also decided to remove my laser for better mounting of my IR Deben lamp. After a play with the lamp and getting it how I wanted it set up I decided to go see what was about. After 10 minutes I came across this little fellow before I sacked it for the night due to too much mist on camp. He was shot at a paced 29 metres straight in the kill zone. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmfnGI9FwQY Si. 1 Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
Not bad bag after all really! Those night time distance estimations are very hard to get the hang of. I really struggle with them now sometimes, even after years of night time shooting. I have to look out for landmarks, stones and tree`s etc from which I know the distances of. Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Nice read Si, keep at em mate ! Mikey Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Si. Really enjoyed reading this one Shooting is not always perfect ranges, bags of rabbits and ideal weather conditions. I seem to make most of my missed shots at closer ranges in the poor light of fog etc. I must revalue close/medium range shooting within my zero, more than I have of late. Like Bill says, Spring is fast approaching and there'll be some great sport on my permissions this year. At least you still are out getting some sport for now mate, it's as flat as a fart here. And a good scoff too! Cheers pal Simon Quote Link to post
