BEARINATOR 2,872
Not sure you could mate, if anything it would be like training a spaniel to quarter the ground

BEARINATOR 2,872
So you mean hand signals, I normally just point and say "where is he" whilst walking towards it to get the dogs attention
mrmen16 5
yes hand signal but i would like the dog to go investigate instead of me walking towards it and disturbing what ever there?
BEARINATOR 2,872
Not really sure then apart from maybe try throwing a stone to were the noise is and hoping the dog goes to investigate

comanche 3,076
Buy (or better, borrow from the library) a book on gun dog training . "Training Retrievers by N Man" if I recall has some very simplified techniques for working a dog to hand signals and the whistle . Give it a go

Casso 1,261
Can you teach a lurcher to check a Pacific area? if so how would i train it thanks The way i focus a dog on an area is point,,i play fetch using a ball, before i throw the ball i point in the direction im going to throw and always throw in that direction,,in no time the mutt will pick up on what your doing, a canine is one of the only animals to understand pointing or the projection of your gaze, its instinctive,,, after a while you will have to plant the ball or a couple of balls round a field or garden, point in the direction and encourage the dog on,,dont make too difficult at first , using the same phrase every time, he will get the knack , keep it a fun game , and he'll love ya for it,,best of luck,,
