wink hound 0
have you never bolted one from a big rabbit warren with it then? foxes are funny creatures and smoke is a funny tool, i have done my fair share of ratting and i have come to the conclusion that alot rats do die underground without even trying to bolt(not a nice death i wouldnt of thought), i have also done a good share of foxing with terriers, and you will find alot of foxes are sulky animals when to ground, i would only imagen that smoke would make it worse. imho opion just like when worked with dogs, some foxes will bolt, some wont. i wouldnt like to think of using smoke to a fox tho, i think its just as "unsporting". so you have 2 options really, get someone with a good bolting dog to try the earth or being a lurcher lad and being sure the earth is occupied simple wait for it to leave and dispatch. cheers wink WHEN I GO OUT FOR A WHOLE DAY YOU WOULD BOLT ONE RABBIT IF THAT, UNLIKE RATS THEY NORMALY FACE THE FUMES THE ODD ONE THAT BOLTS/FLOPS OUT YOU CAN ALWAYS PICK IT YOU WITH YOUR HAND AS ITS OVER COME WITH THE FUMES i ment wether you had ever bolted a fox out of a warreen with it mate? witton 6
I was told that fox and rabbits have a natural instinct to go to ground when there is smoke like from a forest fire. So i would of thought if you smoked an earth it would just push the fox deeper and stop it from bolting? David Quote Link to post

JODYFOXHUNTER 0
I was talking to my uncle about terriers this christmas, he has hunted with the North Yorkshire packs for the last fifty years. During the conversation he mentioned the terrier leaving the earth after only working his fox for a short amount of time (10 minutes or so). eh? i said, left his fox? Who on this site would admitt to having a terrier that did that??? Seems to me the perfect dog for a rock earth like this...!! 9 times out of 10 he'll bolt once worked if given the chance. You'll be hunting your fox again and come darkness having a pint talking about the day, whilst the man who entered the stayer is freezing his bollocks off on a hillside. Obviously i'm not knocking a stayer! but it makes you think when you knock one that doesn't!!!! Jody Quote Link to post
Guest shay
I would admit it if a dog jibbed and came out, you would be a fool to lie to yourself about it never mind others. It is handy to have a dog that won't stay all day though, by this I don't mean a ten minute dog I mean one that will get stuck in but come away after a few hours if the situation isn't getting any better.
