lurcher thinking hes a terrier

hey lads my little beddy collie whip x whip colliehound has a problem. when on the lamp if hes missed the rabbit and its in the ditch he will sometimes follow it into the ditch. only lamping on his own problem is outside of ditch hes perfect at all his commands but once in ditch he doesnt listen and i end up waiting till hes ready to come out its driving me up the wall im about to get a new pup and dont want her to copy these antics apart from this hes perfect hes a top little ferreter and can work the lamp well im only getting a new pup as hes only 15 tts and small for long slips or charlie just need this problem sorted any of you guys have any experience of this

did you start him daytime first ,if so i allways think its best 2 start a lurcher lamping first ,i don,nt mean never show him nothing dureing the day what i mean is not as much ,they will stop the dog doing what you say and hunting up on the lamp ,the no1 thing in a lamp dog is how quik the dog comes back imo

ALRIGHT MATE.YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO STOP HIM USING HIS NOSE ON LOST RABBITS AS YOU SAY HES A GOOD FERRET DOG AND PROBABLY A GOOD MARKER AND MOOCHER .YOU COULD TRY GUILT TRIPPING HIM WHEN HE FINALLY COMES IN.I USE THIS TACTIC AND IT WORKS MOST OF THE TIME.

knock of the lamp and dont bother calling him he will soon start worrieing where u are and come running

 

ill try that i normally start calling and calling etc as hes normally perfect out of the ditch cheers

 

and yes his size and everything makes him the perfect moochers companion
