secretagentmole 1,701
Has anybody tried these bipods? Redbeck Shooting Second line down, the £7.50 ones, seems like a good idea! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
If you look around on here, you'll see lots of info on why bipods are not a good idea on springers. Basically, the springer relies on a consistent support to achieve shot to shot consistency. Now if you can guarantee that you will have exactly the same surface under the bipod EVERY time you fire it, then you can zero it at that and you will have good accuracy... However, in a hunting scenario, you might be taking one shot off grass, the next off concrete, the next leaning on a gate post... you get the picture, so it is recommended that you rest the rifle on your hand, so you can keep the rest consistent shot to shot, helping you achieve decent accuracy. So they might look nice, and sound like a good idea, but extensive testing suggests that in practical hunting applications they are actually a supremely BAD idea! 1 Quote Link to post

rabbit.slayer.no.1 3
maybe if you put some sort of clothe on the top , like rap it round so it takes some of the movement away from the recoil down the stick them maybe just maybe it will work. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
I don't think so slayer, to shoot a springer accurately you need to allow it to recoil naturally to a certain extent. Mounting a bipod on it changes how it recoils. I've tried all sorts of bipods on my springers and gas ram guns, and not found one yet that consistently shoots well in every situation. pianoman 3,587
Bipods + Spring rifle = AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here we go. The recoil from a spring and piston is 2-way, compression plus heavy vibration and, quite unlike a full-bore cartridge rifle which recoils backwards only. This means that the barrel of a springer will jump if it is rested on anything solid, throwing your shot all over the place. Not good! Edited January 31, 2011 by pianoman Quote Link to post
StevoSmith 147
Not a great idea.......Just try and fire your spring rifle whilst it is resting on something solid.....it will do what simon has said and kick up.....as has been said a spring rilfe has 2 way recoil...this is why your leading hand holds the underneath of the rifle for stability and without it,ping upwards you go lol. Whitey1234 1
is that a no then? Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I got one anyway, not for shooting from, but lying in the prone position it keeps the rifle off the damed ground cos it is ruddy damp! Just a nifty little device to keep my mech out the wet mown grass! Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
So why not lay it on your rifleslip moley? Consider your fieldcraft. There you are, all laid up nice and snug in your waterproof cammo when... out pops Mr Rabbit. You then move to take your rifle off the bipod...you move to get that out of the way...you move the rifle to your shoulder....He's gone! £7.50 to give your position away. Too many movements mate. They'll spot you easy and probably hear some sound of clicks when you uncouple the rifle from the pod. You might think you didn't make a sound but, the rabbit has brilliant accoustic high frequency sound detection in it's lugs and he'll hear ANY rustle, snick or click you make out to 100 yards away. You'll miss more than you'll get a shot at with that thing mate. Honestly. All the best. Simon Quote Link to post
Karpman 44
Tried one with me pcp useless POI change every time if located on barrel not surprising really, Moves the barrel slightly every time so wave good bye to your zero. Useless unless you want be playing with your scope and missing alot IMHO karpman Edit guess it's the same reason why you don't lean your barrel on things to take a shot doh Edited February 25, 2011 by Karpman Quote Link to post
mad al 146
I found that a small bag of sand/dog training dummy used as a rest to be the best tool for the job, can be used anywhere, top of posts/gates/on the ground and easy to carry clipped to your clothing or in your pocket Quote Link to post
