T4msy 0
I have dug out my Theoben sirocco classic carbine which has been sitting in the attic for 15 years after getting damaged!! I was loading it and it broke straight throught the stock. I managed to get a theoben stock off ebay and modified it to fit. I stripped the gas ram out and serviced it, also had to replace the valve in the back as it was knackered. There was a tasco 3-9x40 scope on it but after a few shots the cross-hairs fell away!!!! I bought a cheap bushnell 3-9x40 off ebay but after a few shots the adjusters have fallen apart!!!! Can someone recommend a good scope that isn't going to break the bank?? Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Hi, mate and welcome If you want a good strong no frills scope for not a lot of cash have a look at the Leapers 2-7x32 from JS Ramsbottom. I have one and it's a lovely little scope for the price and it's specifically made for springers with a higher recoil like the Sirocco. Good luck!! Cheers. Quote Link to post
darren watson 14
on my first rifle i had a simple richter optic 3-9x40 mil-dot that were only 50 quid brand new, then a mate of mine got one for his springer that he'd stuck an extra inch of spring in and it handled the extra recoil from that fine, a good little scope, i think. edited to say "what he^ said" iv'e got a leapers on my rifle at the mo, it came from china off ebay for about 55 quid with parallax adjust, illuminated red and green reticle and lockable and resettable turrets. i've not long since got it bang on zeroed after fannying about having my gun back to shop for servicing and im very satisfied with it, i dont think the glass is as good quality as some bushnell sportsmans i used to have but thats the sacrifice i made to have illuminated mil-dots and a bigger objective lens. js ramsbottoms used to sell the bushnell sportsmans for 48 quid or something, HALF the price i paid for mine, dont know if they do anymore though. all the best with your choice anyway pal. darren. secretagentmole 1,701
Hawke are cheap, good sights, that hold zero well and have some nice touches. On my 4x32 for my rabbiting gun I paid £30. It claims to be waterproof, fog proof, shock proof, with multi coated HD optics. What I can tell you is it has a nice wide reticule, gives a very crisp image and seems to hang on to the top of a Hatsan OK on the Hawke mounts that I got thrown in for nothing with the sight. It apparently has a 10 year guarantee according to the instruction manual as well. Edited to make is is, is it! Edited January 31, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Hawke scopes are cheap. But I do not believe they are well made. Quote Link to post

Got to laugh mate, sorry that was a bit funny....sounds like you`ve had a bad "hair" day with your choice on scopes. Hope it gets better...advice on here is quite sound. Soz can`t help you further, except Gammo have a decent build cheap range.I`ve got on this HW77 a 3-9 x 50 Illuminated reticule, paid Euros 100 for it and it does the job, however no milldots for hold over/under aim. Depends on what you wanna pay mate. Might help ya to put max price on. Cheers, Chris. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
OK, well I will report how I get on with mine, all I can report is what it says on the box and in the manual. Setting up was easy, and it seems to hold zero, well hopefully we will see today! If not I know some names to look out for! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
J Darcy, I use Hawke scopes on my PCP and .22LR, and find they hold zero well and aren't prone to zero shift if knocked/bumped. The finish is good, and they seem fairly well made to me. Of course, for £50 you're not going to get something to rival a top scope, but for the money they are certainly very good! I've never had trouble with scopes on my Scirocco, it's the original, non carbine model, and I don't find the recoil that heavy. My springer BSA lightning was certainly more kicky before I put the gas ram in it! I've got a Nikko Sterling on my .243 that seems to hold zero well, and was only £60 from eBay! Quote Link to post
T4msy 0
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Another problem i may have is that the scope rail is welded on the gun and the mounts then have a screw down through the centre. I have 3-9x40 on there at the moment but the front of the scope is only about 5mm above the gun. Some of the scopes appear to have a larger diameter front and may not fit. Can i get higher mounts to fit this rifle?? Quote Link to post
darren watson 14
funny thing this, after i waited for what seemed like forever for my leapers, i found some flimsy mickey mouse mounts in the box with them but they were too wide for my scope rail. I fully expected the scope not to fit in the old mounts that were still on on my gun but they went straight in! with about 4-5mm clearance from the barrell too? Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Try fitting it in the old mount first, if it does not fit then take the old mount off. The screw that goes down into the centre is only a recoil stop, it does not hold the mount on. Bit puzzled about the welded on mounts though, got a picture of both sides of the mount you can post? All Theoben self contained rifles have, or at least used to have, fixed mounts. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
The Scirocco has a fixed mounting rail for the rings. The rings are removable by taking the screw out of the middle, but I have no idea where you might find higher rings to fit them. Maybe Theoben themselves could direct you to somewhere that does them. Most scope front ends don't come much bigger than 50mm, which is only 5mm a side wider than the 40mm you have on at the moment. If you have a little more than 5mm to spare then it SHOULD fit (just make sure the tube is 25mm, as I don't think the rings will accept a 30mm tube! Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Sorry I did not know that they had fixed mounts! Quote Link to post
T4msy 0
Thanks Matt. I had assumed the mounts were 30mm and was about to order a scope. I Just checked and as you say they are 25mm. Quote Link to post
