NEWKID 27,235
This is my 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy and the jack russel in the backgrounds mine. the lurchers only 8 mnths but I got her for the same things as you want ( although i will lamp with her too). I went for 3/4 bred because I hoped it would be quicker than the 1/2 cross and already having a terrier wanted more sight hound blood. She's came on well works well with the terrier when bushing and well with the ferrets. obviously she's really young so I couldn't tell you she is doing this or that yet but so far I'm really pleased. Jordb543 9
I would seriously look at a whippet then. Adding beddy, whilst gaining some things you can lose some of the speed. Whippets probably have the fastest initial acceleration and this is very handy on small land with a lot of cover. They also have great noses. Maybe a 3/4 beddy whip? I'd say you want at least 3/4 sight hound tho. if i was to go down the whippet route would you reccomend a ped or non-ped? or is there not alot of difference i assum non ped means greyhound in there somewhere? just when you said hill, moors, and sanddunes i think a lurcher type would suit that ground then a whippet Tbh rocky i would like to get permission on all different types of land but havnt really bothered as i dont have a dog that will be able to use it, so really a lurcher that i could take on those kinds of places if i wanted to would be nice, not saying it has to catch huge bags maybe just one or two would be fine by me, would be a change of scenery etc and keeps the dogs busy, if im asking too much of a dog to be able to perform at least to an average standard on these types of land etc then please ppl do tell me, i just want to make sure i get it right as i dont like the thought of getting a dog and it not being up to much and rehoming it or getting 2 dogs and not having enough work for them. id rather have a dog that was average all round then 2 that where the best a different things. I've had to do some training without my jack russell ( the jrt can be nose down arse up on scent and go a bit deaf). her retrieve with the dummy is pretty good but again better when the other dog isn't about. Like I said mate she's still a pup but everything so far hasbeen fairly easy, another plus for me (with having young kids) is she is a lovely dog to have in the house very soft natured. I don't think you'd be disapointed with one mate Quote Link to post
