Malt 379
My terrier & lurcher are both chipped. My terrier is legally docked, so she came to me chipped & I got the lurcher done when the local council were offering a free chipping service they roll out every few years. I wouldn't worry about my dog slipping his lead when he was somewhere he wasn't supposed to be, after all as his owner you are supposed to be responsible for it's actions.. Quote Link to post
HiLost 32
I never charge more than the basic price of the chip because its something everyone should have done. Put it this way if every dog was chipped there would be far less problems with overflowing rescues and pounds because dogs would be more traceable and owners more accountable. Of course theres always the ones who dont update their details etc, but it would go a long way towards helping the problem and the type of owner who just dump their dogs or let them roam the streets, might think twice about doing it if they think they are going to end up with a bill from the rescue centre or a prosecution for abandoning an animal. As above, yes ye can. Iv had a few terrier pups from 8 weeks old, they all came ready chipped. They have to be due to the docking. My beagle x jack was 10 months when i got him and i had him chipped same time as the jabs. All of my dogs chips have migrated, usually down one of the front legs. I dread to think what might become of a running dog if the chip migrates along the spine or lodges in some other joint. Has anyone any experience of this? Quote Link to post

It's rare for chips to migrate but does happen. I'd be surprised if all your dogs had migrated chips. I've used chips for 13 years now and they've never moved. The only 1 i personally know of is a mates Rottie whose chip is halfway down front leg but it still picks up on the scanner. I have never known of a chip causing any problems, moving or not, to any dog. They are very safe and imo it's not worth risking losing your dog for the sake of a minimal possible side affect of chip implanting Quote Link to post

Has anyone any experience of this? The chips are under the skin, not rattling round internally! They shouldn't find their way into the joint capsules, even if they end up in those areas.
