pianoman 3,587
Gentlemen. It is one of the nicest things in life to make new friends through something you really love doing, like joining this section of THL and sharing knowledge and experience in shooting and forging new friendships. Today was such a day when I had Andy over to shoot on my permission with my boy Josh and l. We pulled out my HW77, TX200HC and TX200 rifles and scoped and bagged up as Andy arrived at our house with his Diana 52 spring sidelever and Weihrauch HW90 gas ram -a rifle I was particularly keen to try. With bit of packed lunch from my dear Jo, we headed off to meet up with Ian the landowner to get Andy properly introduced before onto a nicely sheltered part of the land and a range shooting course session set up. I use a series of MDF boards and the first pellet hole is the aiming mark. With our rifles eating up the initial 35 yard zero to one-hole groups we set to shooting loose stones at differing ranges. I shot from my comfy low prone position while Andy adopted a sitting approach. Both work very well as we pushed the range out further and further to actually reach out to hitting rabbit headsized stones at over yards across the field with the .177 Diana 52 and TX200HC and to finish the day with a 60 yards straight target shoot with my HW77 .22 and Andy's amazing Diana 52 .177. Both rifles hitting a 5p sized group. Well, Andy chose a conveniently sized, white bit of bird poo on the target board! This is the furthest l have shot this .22 HW to this level of accuracy and in my personal tests today my Weihrauch HW77 .22 beats my Air Arms TX200 .22 rifle for long range stable accuracy. Andy, it was really great to have you over for some amazing accuracy shooting with us. You are a gifted shot with those beautiful rifles of yours. Welcome to joining me anytime you want to come shoot over here mate. Simon 2 Quote Link to post

andyfr1968 772
Simon, it was a pleasure to meet you and Josh and eat some of Jo's lovely sarnies!! 5 pence piece sized groups at 60 yards with springers??? Surely you must need PCPs to achieve those levels of accuracy?? JOKE!!!!! I had a great time, mate. In a way I'm glad we couldn't get to shoot in the woods, it's been a long time since I had the chance to do that kind of testing and I was very happy with the results. It's a handy tool that 52, ain't it and your 77 shot faultlessly Looking forward to next time and thanks again, my friends. Cheers. Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Thanks to you all lads for your kind responses. Hi Ste. Andy was taking 5p-sized 60 yard groups from a casual looking seated position. That really made an impression. Watching him shoot, he was quite relaxed, very nicely poised, rifle perfectly shouldered, handled and allowed to recoil on its weight in Andy's hands, just as it should be. For me, it's good old military style prone, flat to the floor; Same-side leg bent high at the knee to stabilise and anchor lower torso; shoulder and hands sharing the supported weight of the rifle like a tripod. Get the breathing and pulse-rate. In both cases it works equally well at keeping the rifle into stable aim. My boy Josh hit the little disc and put up a reasonable 60-yard group with my 77 and this prone technique. Give em a go! Simon Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
To be fair, when we were doing the pure accuracy testing at the end of the day, I was useing the car for added support. We were trying to see what the guns were able to do rather than testing our own abilities so a little extra help was needed by me. Simon was shooting those groups prone with nothing more than his bag for support. Cheers. Quote Link to post

Need a vice for 60yarders tho, only joking 2.75ish mill dots and its home, pcp tho not springer, not sure what I could do grouping wise, im going to have to give it a go tho, I may not publish the results tho lol .atb. .ste. 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Well, get yourself up here sometime Ste and come flirt with us anytime buddy. 60 yards is not easy nor is it so tough mate. All I had was a 12 ft/lb spring rifle... Quote Link to post
