nighteyes 275
go out and give any breed silly runs enough,i.e headge rabbits for a couple of seasons and it will start picking them its just dogs with alot of collie in the mix will do it twice as quick, but agilty, brains and i find them easier to read Quote Link to post
whin 463
collies can be bad for pulling up no good on long slips at nite some times but abit of old hardblood grew in them or real good saluk type soon stops that in my eyes Quote Link to post

darbo 4,776
have heard of collie lurchers picking their runs never owned one. half beardie dog always give 100% as did 3/4 grey 1/4 collie. prefer 3/4 cross more versatile than a 1/2 cross without losing intelligence. Quote Link to post
scottyboyish 14
An Old mate of mine used to say' If you want a job done, get a doer to do it.If you ask a thinker to do it, they'll only think of ways to make the job easier to do'. I'm still confused. Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
had a few 1st cross collie grehounds and have to agree with most comments posted they do get a bit clever for the man/woman who expects them to run every bunny put in front of them but for ferreting or bushing their brilliant .i also had a dog called glen 1st cross [cattlecollie] greyhound that killed charlie with amazing ease night in night out took 5 foxes in one night farmer was well chuffed sadly his love of cats got him run over Quote Link to post
whin 463
who bred the cattle collie cross mate not saw many take 5 good foxes had threes what part you from you still got good hard collie types ,as im looking for a good dog through time Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
The biggest mistake people make with Collie bred lurchers is buying pups off parents with no working background, there is no real foundation for future generations in these lines, yet they make up the majority of what is available.Even the well bred dogs are often selective in there work if they dont recieve enough mental stimulation, these dogs thrive on hard relentless graft, they think on their feet and solve problems other types struggle to adapt to.The basis of the best allround lurchers [iMO] is Collie based.I prefer to put Deerhound/Grey in the mix, these two crosses seem to bring the best out of each other. 1 Quote Link to post

kevin kiely 66
their intelligence makes a big difference i think, when they can anticipate the turn of what their chasing.my collie cross ,dead now,was good at this,ie.lamping rabbits, and he wouldnt always run down the beam but run to the left or right whichever way would cut the rabbit off .these things are more likely to happen with intelligent animals.
