Tractability and a sound constitution, and i think constitution is far too overlooked.

Superfurry, what the guys are stating is that too much inteligence can be negative and i tend to agree, if i slip my dog i want total comitment, i don't want the dog overriding my decision to slip because he thinks that rabbit is too close the the hedge etc etc..........

couldn't agree more bud, but for me it has to be brain, as said in the post :- what does the collie bring ? if i wanted total commitment then a bull x would be the answer, but in my eyes they're a sledge hammer to crack a nut, pending what you want i find a good collie x whippet, collie x greyhound or beddie x whippet, beddie x greyhound hard to beat.

I know what you guys are talking about...... Ha Ha it can get pretty fustrating when the dog is ruuning to smart. Had them , cursed them but would take the pros over that con. Every cross has a hole or holes that is a big one in CollieX.

Had a friend that had a 7/8 night and day between a 3/4 in the running smart shite.

a dog with to much brain, f*ck what next ? the post was what does a collie bring to an out cross i.e - greyhound, whippet. it brings absoulute obediance, hearding instinct, good coat, and a brain that won't keep it laid up under a heat lamp for a few weeks !

hearding instinct? hell yeah! its mostly sheep i run anyway. why would a brain stop a dog being laid up under a heat lamp for a few weeks? please explain?????

I think the "brain" comment is due to the fact a lot of collie lurchers pick their runs, if they are slipped on a rabbit they deem to close to the hedge or seemingly uncatchable they either run half heartadly or refuse to run. I prefer a dog that doesn't think, but simply reacts and runs each rabbit like its life depends on it.......
