Sorry mate i meant that there are far more efficient ways to control rabbits over the summer than fighting a jungle war amongst the nettles, digging big holes everywhere and sweating your ass off. rapidjenky 97 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Share Posted January 29, 2011 no worries mate, just a certain place we have is ferret only and when the guy says ferret that hedge we do it no matter what time of year it is. i just do as im asked to keep them happy. snares are no go, drop boxes may be an option but no one can go to check them as often as they should. shot guns are a no, lamping the rabbits are really shy and dive straight back into cover. How about air rifle and night vision mate ( best way for lamp shy bunnies), you must dig your ferrets out constantly in the summer when the warrens are full of young. I know you gotta keep land owners happy to keep permision but that must be hard work. Have you ferreted the permission constantly for a couple of years? If so how do find the population of rabbits after a couple of years? Thats not a dig mate just interested if they re-colonise quickly if your constantly taking them as we rest our permission out of season to be honest mate this is the first year and i know we wont be stopping. they have to be wiped out best we can but i know for a fact it will never happen. ide say there are alot more warrens we carnt get to then the ones we can. i have air rifle and night vision mate and ive used it before and we will be trying it there in the future. we just get asked to use ferrets so we do. there is a huge amount of rough on the estate for the pheasants and alot of huge holly bushes which i try my best to avoid when ferreting. its hard enough to ferret and dig a hedge row thats died off threw the winter but big hollys bushes no thanks. when all the growth comes back we will be doing what we can but not the the extent we do threw the winter when we can get to the more over grown sets.
