ferret lady 73
They probably can, but they shouldn't...it's very bad for them. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,935
The extra salt is the bad bit. They can eat bacon,, the wee buggers will eat the whole pig if they get the chance But imagine all that extra salt condensed into a wee ferret body ! A wee bit would probably make them love you even more, but only a wee bit mind !! lol ATB Quote Link to post
Hedge_hunter27 18
Yes they can eat it but as stated the salt content is high . I used to give mine a bit of rind now & again as a treat. If you do feed them any & it’s cooked make sure you chop it all up especially the rind as it can be hard for them to chew . Quote Link to post

If this is correct, mine would have been dead a long time ago. they have them every week.. Quote Link to post

atomo 19
I wouldnt give mine any because of the high salt content as said above but why pay for bacon when cat food is cheaper and bunnies cost nothing Quote Link to post

Its full of water. Get them real meat from the Ab, or butchers.. The sausages and pork come in with the mixture of meats. Atb Russ. Quote Link to post
comanche 2,946
Accepted wisdom has it that ferrets must not be fed bacon. Possibly the tinyest scraps will do no noticable harm just as the odd bit of chocolate or a grape or two will not kill your dog even though these are considered poison to the canine system. Eaten in any quantity large enough to form decent meals bacon will probably kill your ferret. This conclusion is not based simply upon what I have read . I know of an instance where a well-meaning wife fed her husband's ferrets some nice gammon steaks . The ferrets died .All of them.Very quickly. Do not confuse bacon -which is heavily preserved in salt -with pork. Pork is unsalted pig meat and I have fed still-born piglets and butcher's trimmings to my ferrets on occasions . However, uncooked Pork does have a reputation for harbouring parasites , goes rancid very quickly and is fatty .Hardly a healthy or risk-free diet . 2bob's mention of bunny heads is worth remembering. They come free with every rabbit you catch and (unless you are into the brains which some find a delicacy )are usually thrown out with the skin or given to the freds anyway . I've a cardboard boxfull in the freezer just to cover those times when I've nothing fresh or have a litter to feed . Edited January 30, 2011 by comanche Quote Link to post
