grizz 0
hi i was just wondering would a bell work ferreting because the rabbit would run away from the sound on the ferrets collar as i dont have a ferret finder as they cost a good few quid Quote Link to post
rapidjenky 97
it would only really help if the ferret left the set and moved away say along a hedge row were its hard to see. you could hear it and retrive it. the bell would more then likely fill with mud and dirt and not work with 5 mins of the ferret going to ground so be left useless anyway. nothing comes close to ferret finder, nothing. it really is a must have piece of equipment when you work your ferrets. not only dose it help find your ferret so you dont loose it but you can remove dead rabbits which youde never know were even there without it. ppl who dont use one are liveing on borrowed time. there are ppl who dont use them and havent for years with no problems. but i wouldent ever go without one. burnley hunter 0
i have never tried using a bell on my ferrets but i have heard it helps whilst out as you can hear the ferret in the burrow so you know when they are still and which area they are Quote Link to post

alan626 305
it worked for years before locators were ever heard of Quote Link to post
Gerry48 10
it worked for years before locators were ever heard of Thats all we used in the days before locaters, and thy where ok took longer to find ferrets lot more diggin some times, when the ferret comes out of the hole it has a shake so you hear the bell, so you have to be very quiet, we also used to have muzzles on them to stop them killing, but not today, locators much better mate save some money up to bye one. kevin from bristol 95
thats all i use now had locators there ok but i prefer bells Quote Link to post
jackwhippet 3
i've put a bell on all of my locator collars which helps finding them in undergrowth when above ground i was told that rabbits would smell the ferret in the bury first anyway atb jw Quote Link to post
lksopener 105
Bells are useless if you get a ferret holed up under ground. They can clog with mud for a start, so they are then totally redundant. Save up and invest in collars. Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
I cant see you hearing a bell in a deep burrow .and where you might here a bell would you be able to dig to it like a locator ,i think it would only be a rough guide at best Quote Link to post
willygun 0
Bells are handy at locating your ferret above ground we used them for years before locators were available. But you will need plenty of spares as they clog up with mud easly use two bells at a time, if you can get your hands on some falconry bells these are much better. But they are no substitute for locators. Quote Link to post
