Get yourself 28's atleast....
lksopener 105
Those loads will be fine. Liam
Lurchandhistribe 0
load depends on birds your shooting, if your shooting at skyscrapers then id be getting the 28g 5's out.Otherwise 25 6s should be fine. Loads, aside safety first, be corteous and polite thank the keeper and by him a beer as a thanks, if you shoot well dont brag and if its going badly dont worry. Oh and have a great time Edited January 27, 2011 by Lurchandhistribe
kobidog 1
Thanks for that, the birds arent sky scapers as the shoot is on quite flat land but it is late season and they should be decent high birds, unfortunately i will probably have to stick to the 25grams because my dad wont have time to get cartridges before saturday. And Lurch i was wondering wether it is expected to give the keeper something in return?but as i am only 14 i dont think buying him a beer is the best option lol

kobidog 1
Well then here is my write up about today, my fiurst shoot. We had to meet up at the farmyard for 8:30 but i was up well before then buzzing with excitement and getting things ready for the day. When i got there we were told a safety briefing- it was cock pheasants only, no english partridge and no ground game. We were told that there would be a £25 fine if you shot an english partridge so i made sure that i kept my eyes peeled. The guns were then split into two teams of ten, A and B, I was in team A which meant i would be standing on the first drive and then walking the next to. We started the first drive by blanking in a wood without guns and then we went onto our pegs where the beaters and wlaking guns would push the birds back over us into the wood from a strip of maize. There was quite a long wait with very little shooting, a few of the guns to my right killed a few early partridge, then all of a sudden a high redleg came over my and i missed it with both barrels As soon as i reloaded there was a flush of pheasants and i missed a cock bird with my first barrel then killed a crosser with my seond, my first driven pheasant I have shot pheasants before but only roughshooting. Seconds after this the horn blew to signal the end of the drive. The next drive i was a walking gun and very little happened, i didnt even fire a shot. The third drive i was also a walking gun and right at the biggening of the drive i saw a fox, i then went on to miss about three pheasants on the trot, then i heard somone shout "jay" and i looked up and shot it,my first jay unfortunately it was a runner and wasnt found. To my suprise after this i managed to get a right and left on pheasants, both stone dead and one of them was a menalistic. After a quick break we blanked in a field of sugarbeet and i was a standing gun again on this drive. I have been a stop on this drive and i knew i was on the worst peg so i was very suprised when i was greeted by a high redleg which i killed stonedead with my first shot, my first ever partridge after aabout a wait of 5 minutes i was greeted by another partridge which i also killed with my first barrel and then i quickly reloaded and saw a pheasant coming low towards me, i waved my hands at it to scare it up and then brought it down with my second barrel, unfortunatley this was another runner and wasn't found I was very pleased with that drive though because i got my first partridge and i hit 3 out of 4 shots . The next drive i was walking again and i killed a going away cock bird but that was the only shot i got on that one. The final drive of the day is one of the best drives of the shoot for partridges but as on the other drive i was on a crap peg again Anyway as the first partridge cam over i raised my gun to it to see it fall out of the sky, my naighbour beet me to it, i quickly switched onto another, lower partridge and killed it stone dead, the last bird that came over me was a high, high partridge that looked like a starling from the height. I made it flinch and nocked some feathers out of it but it carried on strong. So at the end of the day i had 5 pheasants, 3 partridge and a jay, the overall bag was about 50 partridge 140 pheasant and 3 pigeon so with there being 20 guns i got just under my share. But it was one of the most exiting days of my life and great fun. p.s sorry if ive bored you and that there are no pictures
