A couple over the past 2 mornings

Hi lads,

Being as I’m on nights at the moment at work, I cant get out much with the Ultra due to having to sleep after my shift.

I did go out yesterday morning though for half an hour into the hanger on camp to check my zero after my shift and came across this little jackdaw sat in the trees 35 metres from my accommodation on the way back from my little check zero.

He was bold as brass just sat there looking at me without a care in the world.

Now knowing that the Ultra was bang on for zero I placed the reticule over his heart with 1 mildot of hold over on x10 magnification rested against one of the blocks and squeezed off the second stage of the Ultras trigger.

Bingo, down he fell without even a twitch or opening his wings.

I picked him up and brought him to my room where the camera was to photograph him.

Job done.

This moring this little fellow was chilling out on top of another tree, only about 17 metres from my accommadation window.

I opened the window slowly and got out the black destroyed, loaded the magazine and accessed the shot.

Being just over my first zero point of 13 metres and in the higher part of my pellets trajectory I applied ½ of a mildot hold under on to his brain and squeezed off the second stage.

This pigeon just dropped straight out of the tree and onto the grass, did a quick couple of flaps and then died.

On inspecting the shot back in my room I noted that the shot was slightly low at the entry point side, so must of needed ¼ of a mildot hold under instead of ½.

On looking at the exit wound though caused by the new .22 Falcon Accuracy Plus pellets I noted that due to the angle of the bird in the tree the pellet struck slightly low one side and passed straight through its brain gaining a perfect KZ shot.

Here is the damage caused by the Falcon pellet on exit, proving what a great vermin stopping pellet it is.

The soft lead of the Falcon pellets really do crumple up well on impact making for great energy transfer.

So the tally at the moment for the new .22 Tench tuned and regged Ultra is still rising at:

1 rabbit

1 jackdaw

1 wood pigeon

11 rats.

Si.

No mate I was using RWS Super Fields in my r10 not Super Domes.

Accuracy wise the RWS Super Fields and the Falcon pellets are the same but in 2 different rifles.

My r10 is with my mother and I haven’t tried Falcon pellets in it yet since it was tuned at Christmas by Tench.

I have shot the RWS Super Fields though and its pellet on pellet and hits really hard.

I will try the Falcon pellets in her though and see how she performs.

The Falcon pellets are only 13.4 grain but have a self calibrated BC of 0.0557, so awesome where the RWS Super Fields are 16 grain and have a BC or around 0.0331 so good, but not as good as the Falcons BC.

In short both pellets are very accurate in the rifles that I’ve tried them in.

In the new DVD I do a demo of the r10 shooting (before it was tuned) at small targets at 50 lased metres, hitting them every time with RWS Super Fields.

hi ya si buddy

i take it your like the ultra multi then buddy are you glad you swapped it with me pal ?

cracking shooting as ever buddy i am thinking of going out for an hour or so later with the lamp on the golf course

anyway pal the pictures are great si and i told ya them falcon pellets are good aint they buddy even tench likes them your right though they are soft and damage in the tin can happen but they are very good and well worth taking the damaged ones out and using the rest of them as it aint alot of them is buddy plus i was looking at my target today cleaning up all the pellets and found that the falcon one were totally flat on impact i have got them in 177 now to plus super fields and bisley mags to now they are very light in the 177 be very good for close range stuff but lose it abit after 30mtrs

hard hitting pellets = bisley mags 10.6 grains long range shots less pen that way

rws superfields 8.4 grains again very nice pellet short to mid range good alrounder

falcon A plus 7.3 grains i think i will need to look lol but very flat and great on close range and mid range i have found that just over 30mtrs they tend to spin out a little wind factors affect them to

the falcon in 22 though are proving to be very good and power transfer to the vermin is full on as i was saying to you si that squizzer i hit at 11.72flbs using the falcon A plus 22 looked like it had took all brain matter out of the squizzer :blink:

thumbs up for the falcons though classy pellets

Hi Davy bud,

Yep the Falcon pellets are class in the Ultras so far and group very tightly too.

I haven’t had one runner or a mad flapper with them yet, and even that rat I shot with you and Andy the other night in the hedge bottom that I managed to hit in the throat didn’t get very far from the shot position (30 cm max) before be was dead and photographed.

So thumbs up for falcon at the moment pal.

Hi Shay,

Yep I love her buddy.

It’s so nice to be back to shooting .22 again, even though I did like the .177 at the longer ranges with less hold over to worry about.

Its defo easier to shoot the smaller calibre than the bigger one, that’s for sure mate.

Did you manage to turn the .177's power down a slight bit now that she has run in buddy?

I chronoed her when I first got her, but didn’t do it again so never noticed her slight power creep mate.

If she is shooting Magnums at 11.7 ft/ibs now I would be very happy with that pal.

I think that we both got a good deal buddy, you got your .177 again which you love to shoot and I got a multishot .22 so we were both happy.

I will defo do business with you again pal, your a genuine regular and honest to the bone.

Cheers Ste,

I think that your right about the shot being right for the angle buddy as the exit wound shows, but for me personally I didn’t want the shot to land there low and tried to compensate to allow the pellet to impact a little higher in the front kill zone area, so for me personally it wasn’t a very good shot, but it is one ill learn from and next time ill only give it ¼ mildot hold under instead of ½.

Thanks for you support though buddy. I appreciate it pal.

Hi Si,

Nice shooting pal!

Glad you are getting on with the Falcons. Used them in my R10 .177 and still cant find a pellet that groups better. Sadly I found they are to susceptible to wind being only 7.3 grains. In .22 at 13.4 grains I think you get the best of both worlds. Flatter trajectory and delivering a decent weighted payload!

Kind Regards,

Mikey.

Hi Steve,

Cheers buddy,

I’m starting to get there now in regards to the new Ultras shooting characteristics and her trajectory etc.

A few more weeks practice with the new lighter Falcon pellets and I will crack it I think buddy and be shooting her dead on.

If I can shoot her anywhere near as well as I shoot my r10 I will be happy pal.

She as all the makings of being a really capable rifle for vermin shooting once I’ve cracked shooting her accurately.

Hi Mikey,

Thats good encouraging news for me buddy.

Hopefully the pellets will work well in my r10 as well then.

Improving an already brilliant rifle can only be a bonus cant it pal?
