bird 9,926
why do people think bull's have no intellgence?........ they are actually a lot more intelligente than most assume, feck in some cases they have made guide dogs for the blind!, but back to the post any dog is going to pick up some sort of injuries when working, my young dog ran full pelt into a shit bin the other day! (broad daylight) Because they dont have as much inteligence as other lurchers. Thats why they were used, for the power yes, but also there fearlessness, and never say die attitude, brought to them with not being the cleverest dogs, simple really. Just as an insite, how many different lurchers and what breeds have you worked along side a bullx, and how many bullx have you worked with. As the assumption cant really be made by watching just one dog, say a 3/8 5/8. They all need to be studied, and anybody who has put this into practise, will surely have come up with the fact, that a bullx(no matter which kind) arent as inteligent as another lurcherx, ie, collie, beddy, etc. No body said that they all arent inteligent, and nobody said that they didnt have any inteligence at all, just that they werent as clever. their are always exceptions, which ever walk of life you take. you wrong, ive had both xs over 25 years.Got a 1x collie grey male 3 1/2, and 6 month old 3/8 bull 5/8 grey dog pup now. In fact my bullx pup which i took to training class, not to train really more for it to be (social) with other dogs, and i have done this with every lurcher what ever the x for 25 years. There was 9 in my pups group, and Tod my pup came 2nd from top, which is good+clever in my book. A GSD won, and that was 11 months old and extra age made that bit of differnce, but very good dog though APBT +STAFFS are clever dogs, and as ive said all my bullxs were just as easy to train as my colliexs, both were+ are good with stock, and both retrieve. If i had to choose from both xs, i would go for the bullxgrey as i like a dog who gives 120% in all forms of hunting, were as other xs dont Sorry but who are you to tell me that i am wrong. We all can have an opinion matey. I have a 1stx bull, also a 3/8 5/8. A saluki, and have had a number of other x's including both colliex's. For one, your colliex is a 1st x, not a lurcher. And you have only owned that one collie type, so you cant come here saying i am wrong, when you havent owned and worked with other strains. And the thread wasnt on training dogs to retrieve or sit, etc, it was about why they are so barmy. And i answered with the fact that their prey drive goes through the roof, and its a do or die situation. You say they are as easy to train. Well i can honestly say hand on heart. I have had all my colliex walking off the lead on any main road, cats about etc. And they would not stray from my side, i have never ever managed to do this with a bullx. You also sayyou like a dog which gives 120%(no such thing) in all forms of hunting, well your colliex is only a rabbitinig dog, so does this mean you dont like him anymore, becasue before you got Tod, Brin was the bee's knees and the love of your life. And your bullx is only a pup, what if he doesnt do the reds, what are you going to do then, i think you are lighting your fire before the wood is dry. Atb hairybush. No offence intended, each to their own opinions. wrong again , 1st i am not talking about Bryn, i am talking about others dogs ive have in the past (colliexs and bullxs) Bryn is a good rabbit dog, and thats what i ues him for. The dogs i had before were 3 colliexs , and 2 bullxs and were good dogs on most quarry. ive been into lurchers from the 80s, and talk from experiance's from then to now, how long you had dogs then old pics of both xs bullxgrey colliexgrey same old pics. I got my first lurcher at the age of 12, let me see, erm, 1967 was the year. Is it not a bit early to be putting brin out to pasture. And could you tell me a little more about your beardie collie x's, and how inteligent they were? Quote Link to post

optimus 447
Hi guys n girls Ive got 13 month old bull cross and while out on a walk the other week he got caught up on a barbed wire fence so I rested him up when he was no longer showing any signs of pain I took him out for a run and he ran straight into a tree and a branch stabbed straight into his shoulder. So my question is, is my dog just stupid or is it because he is still young? Any tips or advice would b greatly appreciated thanks all.
