brokenleg 0
hi guys n gals. Just after christmas there my 7 month old saluki/greyxbull/grey had an argument with a car.(the car won). She broke front right her leg just below the knee. The vet fixed her up for the small fee of 350 quid. She is an intelligent ,game dog and i would love her to get back to her best. I feed her a mainly raw diet but should i suppliment this with anything else while she is recovering? What kind of excersise should i give her and how much? Any other advice and comments are very welcome. thanks Stevie p.s the didnt stop, turned off their lights and drove away.
witton 6
Sorry to hear that mate, have you got any pics of her? Im very interested in this cross, iv got a 4 month old pup of the same breeding. Did the vet say if she will make a full recovery and be able to work after? I would start with road walking to build her up, little and often at first and slowly increase the amount. Then i would start trotting her at the side of a bike for a couple of weeks. Dont rush it and give it time. Touch wood she should be ok for some work next season David

The vet said "wait and see" but she didn't need pins or plates so thats a good thing. As for the breed. This is my first bullx and i have to say i am chuffed to bits with her, just hope this doesn't affect the leg too much. thanks again Stevie

I would have thought calcium tablets with vitamin d and plenty of sunshine will help her im no expert but thats what i would give her stands to reason she will need more calcium for the callous thats forming check that the calcium tablets have vit d in if not get some as this will help her take in the calcium i wouldnt think about exercising her more than a small walk for at least three months good luck with the bitch

littlefish 586
My terrier bitch broke her hock when a pup. It was put in a spint (which she successfully removed every few days) and she was pretty much immobilised in a cage for several weeks. She healed very well, I think because she was young and her bones were still growing very actively. She is fine now, sometimes she 'skips' a bit behind, the way some terriers do, so maybe she is a bit arthritic, but generally it does not hold her back. She is five yers old now. Hope your dog does well too.

She is five yers old now. some terriers get displaced kneecaps, it's quite common apparently. my dad has a 14 year old bitch who has it. she walks normally, skips on one back leg when she trots, and runs on 3 legs! it's never seemed to bother her though, most dogs are fine with it.
