harris hawk

hi there every one am just new to the forum iv just got myself with my mentor a second hand harris hawk he is a couple of years old now when i got him he was a little bit difficult to handdle at first but now he is worh every penny we paid £400 for him we have had him about a month in a half i started to take him out the other day with my montor on the craine he was abit slow to start but i took one day at a time with him as i have as i said a good mentor after about 4 days i let him fly off the craine i was abit worried at first but i new i had to do it some time and when we did he came straight to me at about 80 yards what a buzz he done this about 3 times now i can see why all you get such a buzz am a bit gutted that he has to go down to molt but i no when the time is right were going to have some good times with him and am looking forward to reeding some more off your coments and hope to lern abit more from you all and some more from my mentor jjm321

Welcome and good luck with your bird. When your bird is off the line for the first time it does give you a massive high. However wait till he makes his first kill with you - it will blow your mind. You still have time to get a few kills in before the end of the season so good luck and go for it.

hi stoaty as i said mate he was a bit rough when i got him mate i am a bit gutted as i said but i want to do things right the first time i no we all make mistakes and we all have to lern but i dont want to lern the hard way mate if i take my time like my mentor said it will all come to me and thats why i dont want to push him mate like you said and my mentor the first kill is the best so carnt wait till he finnishes his molt mate
