I and many others have had good, long, informative convos with him. He knows whippets and certainly his whippets very very well. He does not suffer fools gladly, and many of those who have said that t

you'll find it hard to find anyone on here who actualy saw the dog running anything, most just repeat the storys theyve been told or read but doubt you'll find anyone who genuinly saw him running.

sorry lads but im thinking about getting a good dog as use probably already no from my other posts and was just wondering did sooty sam take hares and what would use lads use a whippet for ?

i dont think hares would have been his game mate,,,as most whippets are rabbit dog,s,,,,,i dont think sooty sam would have the time or engery to take any,,,as he was a busy boy , doing other things :laugh:

he seemed a good stud dog in his day ,,,lots off guys on here ,, rate him very highly  ,,,but i doubt ull ever see photo off him with game in his mouth,,,,but maybe standing next to some  ,,,,best phone owner for more info,,, he will give u more accurte info on him

I was talking to a chap recently who had a top hare coursing dog whippet (under rules) he said they never caught that many throughout the season it wasn't about catching it was all about the sport (proper law not throwing your dog on top of a squatting hair) for sport a whippet and a hare are well matched and the hare with law will test the whippet to the full. For catching they're better on rabbits as said but they will and did catch (pre ban) hares. I'm not too sure about Sooty sam himself but this particular dog did have some sooty sam in it's ped.

if the pups are what you want give it a go, pups with him in the linage work well but so do pups out of many othere lines.

most whippets given the chance will work to a high standard.

Sooty sam is long gone and in reality his blood is pritty well diluted down now so what exactly he is contributing to most dogs he apears behind is very little. Also as said where has anyone ever even seen him with a rabbit even lay next to him ....

As parkstone states not all working lines have him on there ped and i have actualy been watching a couple of parkstone dogs since the biggining of last year i actualy considered a brindle bitch but decided against it as it would have been a dog id have been after a smaller more compact faster type of whippet exactly how to me a whippet should be.

My initial response to this was whippets are all out rabbit dogs that yes do take other quarry but are bred to be rabbiters sooty sam probably could take the odd hare but then again most whippets can. The dog was mainly used as a stud dog as far as im aware thats all he is renound for i probably took more with my pup last nite on her second outing than sooty sam did in a season. Completely over rated dog if you ask me and i have seen dogs bred down from him run that were not to my likeing there are far more capable dogs in the feild at the moment just everyone dont shout about it and chuck litters out willy nilly.

Funny how SS keeps coming up,I have never met Mike brown or spoken to him,I suppose there will be lads on here that know him,

what I have heard is that SS mainly ran on the lamp, now I don't know if that is true, so don't quote me, as he was born on August 1991 that was 20 years ago so maybe someone saw him work, or perhaps mike is a lone hunter I do not know,

There are stud dogs out there with no SS breeding or very little.
