Ideation 8,216
Did it let out one or two yaps or yap like mad constantly when running? If its the first it might be excitement, a young dog on its first run of the night. If its the latter - get it lots of easy kills and maybe that will help. Quote Link to post
whin 463
yappers are usaly bred or it can be to early entering and tested to hard to young whippet types crossed with terrier are yeppy ,at times got its uses for pushing game out of cover but not for anything else as it clears a feild with the niose it makes ,never fancies whippet crosses with terrier to yippy for me at times maybe an eight whippeor qaurt whippet grew but no more Quote Link to post
NOG 48
Its usually a result of the pups lack of confidence in catching the rabbit. Keep her out wit ur dog but only give her the easy ones or squatters, this should stop her when she gets confidence back.. .... Pa don't be silly did you not here the guy she turned it once and on the second turn it started yapping, imo they don't yapp coz they carnt catch it's just one of them things unfortantly they do. its a horrible thing, but why waste time pissing n the wind when you can move onto something else, me peronaly would get it a pet home. it's time to stop making excuses for these dogs that yap. it's incurable in my eyes. 2 Quote Link to post
airbourne 128
My collie x whippet x bull x grey yapped a bit at first, once she was hitting them she stopped no problem now. Just frustration. Do what some have said give it a couple of easy runs. Quote Link to post

Aye - 12 months old, has a yap - give up, dogs shit, get rid and onto another. Typical THL advice. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
My beddy/whippet yaps on the first run of the night, but shuts up once he's nailed his first. Maybe his dog was wound up by watching your dog have the first three slips and frustrated because it wasn't allowed to run? Maybe once it got slipped it let go of some of the pent up excitement and frustration as yapping? Dog's yap for a variety of reasons in my experience, and writing a dog off because it yapped on it's first run is wrong IMO.. Quote Link to post
NOG 48
well give it to the next season then waste your time and money to find out its a useless mut scaring everything for miles. i have put up with a yapper from the begging of this season to now and the things still at it, its not my dog its my mates but he will never have a better dog coz he makes excuses up for the useless yapper. robboc46 0
My 1st ever beddi x yapped on every turn just a single yap not continuous since then I haven't had a problem with my others as I always entered them later I was 15 yrs old and mad keen I started her far to young even right up to when she retired she would yap on hare on the turns but she did stop yapping on rabbit after she had a season under her belt I think it was frustration knowing the hare would usually get away my latest beddi x never saw a rabbit til she was 16 months I took her in as a rescue she has never once yapped during a course! I would say persevere with it on easy rabbits and hopefully it will come [bANNED TEXT]! Quote Link to post

I personally would never keep a yapper unless it's a hound haha the only people with good excuses for running dogs which open up is the people who have got one Quote Link to post

hoppy 0
Once a yapper always a yapper, some dogs just yap i have had good dogs which work hard and good but in some situations they open up ,all my dogs are brought on very slowly droppers ,ferreting ,mixi rabbits never over stressed i,d rather leave a young dog at home and keep basic training it than risk an impossible catch .i had a hancock bitch trained to perfection, jumping, retreiving, walking at heal a good strong bitch started entering her at about 1 wow what an awkard pain in the ass, would not strike or pick up she would run a rabbit till it gave up .i was very patient but she eventually started opening up ,i got so pissed off that i gave her away,i think i made a mistake ishould of kept her the odd yap here and there does not matter .owners only get rid so they donn't get stick off mates.some dogs do ,some dogs donn't does it matter that much .the bitch i have at the moment doesn't Quote Link to post
