Have a great, well trained ESS bitch that is 6 years old. Just lately she has started to push on a bit, she will flush a bird then chase it even though its 40 yards in the air, i can normaly counteract this and stop it before it happens but on the last 2 shoots shes just gone beserk and chased everything shes flushed, shouting and whistling to her doesnt register and she seems hell bent on retrieving the flushed bird, even though shes no chance of ever getting near it, any tips on trying to combat it?

She may have had too much work and is getting frustrated maybe?

Take her back a couple of steps and get her in an enclosed space and send a few dummies out for her and reinforce the stop whistle. If she doesn't respond then as your in a controlled place you can get to her and reinforce the command and drill this into her.

Some dogs are suited to beating and some are suited to picking up, it can be quite confusing for a dog not to be able to "run in" one day whilst picking up a runner and then stop to flush the next whilst beating etc...

Good luck anyway
