Whilst I was in Whittlesey Gun Shop eyeing up my lovely Stingray, my wife found an air rifle she fell in love with. My wife had a Gamo 400, that was only making about 500 fps, it was not a full power rifle and she wanted to leap up the power league. This was an easy way to join the full power league.

My wife picked up the rifle, it was nicely balanced, being a Carbine it has a short barrel length that I did not find appealed (I like big barrels me, especially if full of beer those are even better but I think long rifle barrels make for more accurate shooting). It was surprisingly neutrally balanced and not that heavy. Anyway she decided on that and the shop put on a Nikko Sterling Mountmaster 4-12 x 50 scope, she also wanted a sound moderator fitted (I thought the sound moderator made the barrel look the right length too).

First impressions, with the beech stock this is a good looking rifle. Cocking, arrggghhhh! Jeez this is tighter than an alcoholic in a brewery. Hopefully it should loosen up, it was slightly easier at the end of the session, but due to some pillock driving into the front of her car 2 weeks ago and breaking her wrist, cocking and shooting is not that easy. The trigger is very sensitive, too sensitive. We are going to get the shop to increase the pull on the trigger as it s a little light, sometimes you can miss the hold point and go straight to shoot, so beware of this. The safety is my favoured bear trap at rear of stock type mechanism too!

Accuracy, nice tight groupings, will get better as my wife shoots her more. But for the first trip out she aquitted herself well. It is easy to handle, aim and once we get that damned trigger sorted out, it will be accurate! Power is exceptional, my wife shot a round clear through the target board that the card target was pinned to, this was at about 25 metres and it was quarter inch board! So now she is happy and getting used to this beautiful little gun.

Nice right-up, S.E.Mole

I've never had anything to do with the 280 but I'm a big fan of Diana's guns in general, properly good quality kit. I'm on my second 52 at the moment, a 45 when I was a lad and a Mod 50, all at least as good as any of their rivals.

It's just a shame they've always been a tad more expensive than most of the oposition otherwise I'm sure they'd be a lot more popular than they are....

Cheers.

Well the Whittlesey Gunshop knocked that one out to the rife for under £300, with that scope fitted so not that much more expensive.I went for Stingray myself as I like the Hatsan made guns...

Well add this all up, Webley Stingray II ,177 new with Hawke Sport HD 4 - 12 x 50 scope with mounts, Diana 280 T06 .177, with silencer, Nikko Sterling Mountmaster 3-9x50 scope, rifle bag, 2 tins of Air Arms Field pellets, a bottle of Napier Power Lube, a box of cleaning pellets and a bag. She had a Gamo 400 that he gave £100 for and the balance to pay was £580. We think we did alright!
