gnasher16 30,534
Yes thats exactly what I want! Is that so hard to understand? I had Sky installed to watch sports, mainly football. I didn't have it installed to sit listening to a know it all harping on for half an hour after the game has finished telling me what I have just witnessed! As I've already said anybody can do that. I hardly call what he did flirting either! I'm not saying I agree with women officiating games but when your in the public eye on a huge wage you just can't go around doing and saying things like that! Everybody, Including him say that footballers are role models for kids and should behave with that in mind, Well thats hardly a way for young kids to follow is it Remember Ronnie O'Sullivans interview in China? I'm sure he was punished for that. Then dont pay for it then, simple !.....You dont want punditry....i do....plenty of other folk do....i want to here what folk who have competed at the highest level have to say about it,i couldnt really care less if they are nice guys,if they eat with their mouth shut or are advocates for womens lib.....its their views on football i care about, the thing they are getting paid for and my reason for watching them ! Role models .....if you think Andy Gray making a rude comment about a bird or Richard Keys trying to be " down with the lads " ( when the camera IS NOT running )is some terrible thing......then make sure you dont let kids watch people on the hundreds of other channels that are not good role models when the camera IS running. They were shafted plain and simple....just because someone didnt like them.....what ever happened to a mentality of " best man for the job "....regardless. I want to watch football! Therefore I pay a monthy fee to Sky for them to deliver that service. I couldn't care less whether Andy Gray or Andy Pandy was doing the punditry, I pay for the football games not who is talking during and after the game. After the final whistle I turn the channel over. As for him competing at the highest level, yes your right he did, and to be fair to him he was a good player, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Bryan Robson and other such players also played at the highest level and some would say were better players than Gray but does that make them good pundits/commentators too? No! Do you believe that only Andy Gray can do the work he is doing? Or is nobody else up to the job?

Personally i think Gray is a very good pundit....Barnes,Beardsley,Robson.....well they might be good i dont know, sky CHOSE Andy Gray for the last 10 years so i guess they are not as good as him....yes im sure theres plenty of others who could do the job but like i say sky felt Gray was the best or they wouldnt have paid him 1.7 million a year to do the job. I say again, sadly in England today " best man for the job " has gone out the window........unimportant bollocks like flirting with a treacle has become more important than the job itself ! Kay 3,709
Shame he got the sack. Years ago a woman in a male dominated environment was treated as one of the lads if she earned the respect of her peers by virtue of their talent. They were made honorary blokes if you like. They took the stick in the same way you would expect a bloke in a similar way would, and gave it back in equal measure. Most of the problem lies with those who dictate what does or does not offend, without even consulting the people they're dictating too, be they women or people of an ethnic persuasion.. PS, Totally agree with your poing about blokes not having anything left for themselves Gnash, you only have to look at the TV schedules these days. Unless you're a woman or gay, there's very little of interest.. Spot on Mal my first job at 16 was in a sheet metal factory i worked in the formans office on the shop floor & i get send for long weights etc .. rubber hammers .. but i wasnt given special treatment by anyone Its no good working in an all male environment & expecting them not to look at your tits.. its natural Were you ever asked to go get a left handed screw driver? cheers Callum More than likely Callum .. i was sent to fetch just about everything else

No my issue isn't about him being sexist, and my issue isn't about having pundits on during and after the game either, I'm all for commentary and punditry just not by him! just the same as on Match of the day when Mark lawrenson is pretending to be an expert! I refuse to watch that too! but when it's Shearer, Hanson I will watch as I like then two. As I said in my original post I can't stand Andy Gray and I'm happy with the sacking! Wheather he is guilty of sexism or not is not for me to say, I'm happy he has gone and football matches on Sky will now be alot more enjoyable in my opinion. Obviously you like him and like to listen to his views and i don't! It's all opinions Sky have employed him for 20 years but somebody will step up to the job and replace him, He'll have no trouble getting another job if he is so good at it
Attack Fell Terrier 864
Ah well its only a matter of time before women decide they can ref boxin matches , that would be all ...imagine the woman ref whippin a hanky out of her pocket to dab a boxers bleedin nose ... There has been female refs mate I don't mind women officiating, if they can do the job then thats good enough for me. But sacking someone for what he said in a private conversation is just f*cking ridiculous. Who ever made the decision to sack him, deserves a kick in the bollocks/piss flaps.

All i dont like is when a man loses his job and gets tagged with the sort of shit Andy Gray is now going to get over something that is nothing to do with sport, its all very well saying he will get another job if he,s good enough......has Ron Atkinson made much impact on tv football since he got caught out over a non football issue,no.....like i say, best man for the job doesnt exist in this country anymore we,re all too worried about whos shagging who or some other sensationalism.....some folk dont like Wayne Rooney as a footballer because they think he,s arrogant ....who cares what a mans personality is like we wouldnt know their name if it wasnt for football so judge him as a footballer not whether he,s a " nice chap "......Andy Gray proved over years sky felt he was best man for the job,now because of sensationalist nonsense totally unrelated to football they now think he,s not the best man for the job......its a sign of the reversed twisted times we live in im afraid. "who was she before, getting into this job".someone who bared her tits and dressed scantily for photographers"!some woman would think that more detomental than what andy said. See this is where i dont buy it......any sport or job that involves physical strength/fitness is not going to be done as well by a woman as it is a man.....thats just nature im afraid, but in these equality obssessed times we have to compromise and pretend that women are equal...... Like when you see 2 x 15 stone fireman lifting bodies out of a burning building....or is 2 x 10 stone women better to give some equality ? 2 x big strong coppers running after a big black mugger.....or is 2 x little wpc,s better to give some equality..... Its a complete compromise on efficiency just to satisfy the lefties.....as the saying says " never be a fool to your own intelligence "......any job that involves physical strength and fitness is going to be done better by a man than a woman, thats just life....its just not popular thinking in these times. Whilst I agree with the examples you've gave (Fireman and Coppa), We're talking about the job of a linesman/woman here mate. All she's got to do is run up and down the side of the pitch, wave her flag about and more importantly know how to make all her male colleagues a decent cuppa tea at half time I think a woman is capable enough to play that role lol. According to FIFA....any official in a premier league game must have passed the standard referees test.....for a person to do a line they have to have passed the referees test..... I was surprised to hear exactly what this involved.....its no walk in the park for a man let alone a woman.....i dont know the exact ins and outs i just remember listening to all the fitness tests they have to pass and thinking This tells a little bit more. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_united/article6871948.ece This one gives a better idea http://en.uefa.com/trainingground/referees/fitness/video/videoid=741903.html Maybe she can just jog to the kettle and back for now Edited January 28, 2011 by gnasher16
