Dawn B 212
Nice to see people having a go at Borders AGAIN, gets very boring. There are umpteen pups advertised on here, all types and crosses, parents never worked, but nobody says much about it, unless its a Border! Whilst I do not condone breeding unregistered Borders as they are a registered breed, for gods sake stop giving folk stick when all they did was want to share photographs of their puppies with you. Guest MOLLY
Same old, same old.....i actively sought out dogs who were NOT digging dogs, if i wanted another ratter, busher then id go for one of these dogs. Borders have a superb temprement for living alongside other dogs and mixing in a pack, as they would need to when bushing and ratting, working with a bop. A hard bred digging dog would not be suitable for my needs, would probably be a hazzard.....Im over the moon that the breeders of my dogs decided to breed or i would'nt have the cracking little dogs i have now Imo it is utter crap to say any dog will rat, bush, they may go through the motions but will they actually be GOOD at it, and know thier job? Ratting terriers have been around for probably longer than digging dogs, and im sure they still called them terriers in those days The lad never said they were digging dogs, just like ive never claimed mine are, nor has he tried to sell them or make money, what is it with people trying to put others down on here...my dogs harder than your dog, so i must be better than you crap MOLL. Guest Eamon.Mc
MJC that's alright showing pics of your pups and bitch, it's the 2 extra pics that you added with the fox in and saying that you'd like to see her at a dig, you sort of set yourself up for this. Just an observation. Quote Link to post
whin 463
the word terreir means earth dog not bushing dog ive got dogs who bush and kill rats but ive only one who goes deep and stays there until dug to , a big diffrence from ,bushing ratting i like both but its awhole lot easier to enter dogs to bushing ratting than going down ahole with strong biting qaurry thats on its own ground , stay there 3 4 or longer hours until dug a spaniel collie etc most dogs will bush well and kill rats but not alll will go deeep stick to th ejob until you get there week in week out ,a diffrent animal ,thats a working terreir, thtas the qaulity people should strive for all the best i like borders and started 30 years ago with my first border a family pet, but turned into a worker but there no were in the league of the patts i keep and work ,all the best Quote Link to post

Guest ragumup
Years ago i went into borders with an open mind got my self four, two working strain and two show/pet strain and after about three/four years of bringing them along slowly one bitch would work her fox well to start with, and stayed well but after a time would work it about five foot away at least, which became boring when iv just dug 5/6 foot The dog border would work closer but would walk out after five minutes eek and even worse the other bitch would only bay at the entrance to a earth the last bitch would bay and stay and is the only one i still have, {the pic below }and i may pass her on yet , so they all worked in their own way ,but theres working and working iv tryed a mates border and wouldnt work at all and was given loads of chances it was well gay, so even though im a keeper with pheasants to protect , its all about the dogs performance for me i now have patts they have much more courage more heart and determination the first time i saw one work i was amazed so when people with borders say "hoe" im sure it would make the grade or i think it would be as good fox dog i just laugh to myself in my experence they are very very poor for real terrier work.
