zaktarin 1
Interesting read... My link % eh? Seems way too high for the UK. What you guys think? Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
what a load of shite there are more working ferrets in the south west than pet ferrets in the rest of britain Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
It's bollocks mate - imagine the way they got the figures for that? They probably did it through pet food sales, which immediately eliminates those who flesh feed from ever being asked. I'd say pet ferrets in this country are 'relatively' rare in comparison to say the U.S.A. Whereas workers are probably more commonly found here than any other country. Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
Really depends on where the census took place attend a ferret show and those figures may be correct come on thl and ask the figures would be put on there head Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
sam4530s 37
workers all the way even my mums "pet ferrets" get worked Quote Link to post
tinman3 3
i used to keep them as pets as a young lad, untill i descoverd what they were good for! working class ferrets Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Absolute shite, what's this 'ferret census' bollocks they're on about? Probably amounts to a handful of questionnaires in city pet shops... Out of the 20 or so ferret owners I know, only one of them has them as pets.... Quote Link to post
zaktarin 1
Im glad you agree - thought I was going mad. Seriously, how many people actually keep them as pets these days?! Quote Link to post
Fert gal 0
Im glad you agree - thought I was going mad. Seriously, how many people actually keep them as pets these days?! It's probably because I'm a soft girl but I consider my ferrets as pets but they all work! 11 buns on Saturday! I can't imagine my ferrets not working, they love it but they get well looked after as well. Couldnt keep a ferret in one of those indoor cages like a hamster they are too clever and need a run out.... But as I say I'm just a soft girl!!! Quote Link to post
zaktarin 1
i do Sorry Dave - didn't mean to offend anyone. What I suppose I mean is that different people have different views on what a 'pet' is. I guess all my ferrets are pets to an extend, like any animal you keep, but they are working animals. What they are not is live-in domesticated ferrets who curl up on your bed - like a family cat/dog. Am I explaining myself properly?! lol Quote Link to post
rabbit.slayer.no.1 3
well any animal kept in the home area is classed as a pet, yes we work them but they till live with us. we go out talk to them hold them play with them, so yes ferrets are pets. and when we do take them out its not even work for them its just some fun under ground. but this is just my appinion Quote Link to post
martnmagik 68
i had this conversation a while back with a few lads down the local.to me a working animal that is kept only as a pet is cruel,it is there natural instinct to want to hunt so why pretend they are anything but a natural born hunter. one of the lads said to me "well you keep ferrets so therfore they are your pets" to which i replyed NO a pet is something that has been bred purposley to be domesticated and live with humans. but he just couldnt grasp what i was trying to explain. Ferrets were/are bred purposefully to be domesticated and live with humans and hunt? A pet/working animal is what you make it, as is a ferret. Quote Link to post
