hobs or jills?

Recommended Posts

Why not try both mate, you'll probably want to have 2 with you anyway.

Over time you may find one will work better than the other and you'll get a feel for the way they work.

Usually the hobs will kill more readily meaning a bit more digging, but can be really useful for moving stubborn rabbits, usually jills mean more bolting rabbits and I think especially when working long hedges with long nets move a bit quicker through the warrens.

Nothing is certain though, so i would say use them both and see how it goes

somebopdy said if i put them together, like to carry them up in the carrier, they would fight, is this true?

if u do take both out at the same time put them in a double carry box if u are to collar them up as a couple of years ago i had 2 polecat gills in the same box and a brand collar on the one and the other one chewed it off luckily there was still a bit of leather the cobbler could sew a piece of leather to it and punch a few holes in it for me

If your working warrens that's larger than 8/10 holes then in my experience one ferret won't be enough to shift them. My method is to get the ferrets in and get the rabbits out. You might end up with a bit more digging if the ferrets trap a rabbit between them but it's a quicker way of ferreting land with many warrens.

I prefer working jills as i think its just easier to have 4/6 jills out all year including the summer time and they work together no scrapping etc and they can pass threw nets with a collar on ,
