Ideation 8,216
All rounder should learn - sit, stay, fetch, go, come, make a cuppa, get the beers in, f**k off, cook dinner, do the dishes and can i have a loan? the average lurcher will probably survive with sit (stay), come and fetch (go find). Simoman 110
I used to be a professional trainer and my dogs were trained to a very high standard with a huge number of commands, nowdays i'm happy if they have a solid recall, retrieve, are stockbroken and lie down.............. Casso 1,261
one of the most usefull commands i find is Wait,,if the mutt is off lead, and we're coming up to a gate or gap in a hedge,, the reason been i want to see whats in the next field before the mutt does,, Quote Link to post
Chid 6,493
wait ,stay ,stop are all unneccecery imo ,i use SIT and my dogs sit till told to move.. they picked up on there own to stand still while ferreting so never used a word for that ... altogether i use IN (to walk in) OUT (to hunt up) SIT (to sit) one of my dogs also sits on hand signals and both come in to the whistle .. dont need a command to come retrieve as they just do it ..
