Never owned a racing grew. Anyone work them?

I hear, that their not good at lamping and ferreting ect?

Just what i heard, not sure if its true?

They are meant to lack in brains?

Our grews go out mooching most days and never stop working from start to finish, like other crosses some make top class lampers and ferreting dogs, it depends on how they are brought up and on the person brining them up.

Regarding brains, most of ours have been smart arses, and are as brave as lions and give 110%.

The only down side is, some can be to fast for their own good at times, and with speed comes toe trouble if there ran on the wrong terrain. My old dog Jack didn't have any problems with his feet until he was 6 yrs old, 3 injured toes that have calloused up and a snapped tendon which runs down the side of one of his front toes, which at times I have to flick it back, and he still loves knocking over the odd rabbit and squirrel and he's 9 this year

I'm not going say that there the best thing since sliced bread, but they suit me and my surroundings and give me immense pleasure watching them run wether it be working or racing.

My intension is to breed a broken coated speed machine, so I've decided to put a first cross bedlington x greyhound over one of my bitches.

Mine is only a pup and been with me a week but she does not lack in brains.

In a week she comes to her name, sits & retrieves to hand. I would have to say i am very pleased with her progress so far but it will be next season at least before i see her working ability (she has good prey drive).

I will also be having some fun and racing her

This is a great thread and i'm loving all the pics and history.

Hope mine turns out as nice looking and a decent worker, she's almost a Grew (if thats possible) but there's a tiny splash of bull on dams side.

Hi Shazza, cracking looking pup you've got there, hope it turns out to be all you are expecting and more  and good luck.

There was bull terrier put into grews years ago, and every now and then you can get a throw back, I'll sort a picture out of one of ours.

Why thank you kind sir

She's my first lurcher and introduction to this kind of working dog and i am mighty impressed with her.

I was also concerned that whipps & greys would be hard to train but after speaking to a friend that was a top racing GH trainer for many years he laughed at me and told me all the stuff he trained his pure GH's to do, they are far from stupid it's just that no-one takes the time to teach them anything except to run and win races.

I will have to get some down on a new thread as he has some great memories.

Thanks.

Any pics folks of these grews working, with catches ect?

If going lamping, what is the catch rate like, say, out of 10 runs?

This is a throw back, and it was so obvious at birth that she was going to be bully, I kept her and her sister, and they were like chalk and cheese.

Will put a picture up later of her sister.

This is the litter sister, 11 yrs old now, and still loves the odd run on the bunnies and all her toes are good
