catching non-target by mistake

Recommended Posts

before i start i would just like to state my mate has not caught a non target animal but there are a few in the area , my mate intends to use a fox live live trap and was wondering what happens if someone finds something ( unharmed) in your trap (which you havent meant to of caught) before he does, so he can release it unharmed??

he has a chicken killer in his garden but is worried about the other visitors that pass thru that may show intrest in his bait , he has a footpath that runs at the end of his garden hence the worry .

i will be dispatching the fox for him once caught.

thanks

why dont you mate avoid the situation of getting a non target in his trap.them cagetraps cost a few notes, and a snare cost pennies, you can waite a week or two before fox use them cage things, when you can get a fox on the first drop with a snares. set them as they should be set and fox,is all you will have in them.

:hmm:

If you read the OP properly, you will see that the poster is worried about non-targets, as they know they are in the area.

A snare in this situation would be totally irresponsible, and it is very poor to advise using them in this case.

Cage trapping would allow for any non-targets caught to be released unharmed.

Snares are great in the right circumstances, but not in this case.

Over the years i,ve caught a lot of non target animals. And as far as i,m aware as long as you check your cages daily and non targets are released unharmed you should be alright.Only other problem is the footpath you,ll prob get more complaints to rspca and so on of the general hang the hunter brigade.good luck anyway.

FECK ME ,

HAS THIS SITE TURNED INTO HOGWARTS  ......

WHAT IS IT ? " HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED "

FECKING HELL ITS A DAFT BADGER , NOWT ELSE ....!!!

A FOX SNARE SET AT THE RIGHT HEIGHT WILL MISS BADGERS ... SOMETHING IVE SEEN MYSELF IN THE FLESH ........ A REAR GARDEN ? , WELL PROBABLY A CAGE TRAP FOR A MAN THAT ISNT VERSED IN THE SNARE IS PROBABLY THE BEST OPTION

ALL THE BEST

;) snares are out of the question as both of us do not have experience in them

Chimp.....you've got a chicken killer in the area that(reading between the lines) you seem to think must be the fox. If there are badgers in the area there is the chance that its the culprit. I'll leave it at that...

Wow, a responsible answer! Good call, although Duckwing is right, fox travels at a diferent height.

Good luck

I'll bet if he sets a cage trap and there are foxes and badgers in the area he will catch the badger and not the fox...... :hmm:

Legally as long as you checked first thing in morning and re-leased you will be fine. Put up a row of willow hurdles down the garden and set behind that so cage cannot be seen from path as easy, to reduce people stealing or breaking trap (or releaseing charlie), and to stop people phoneing police/arse.p.c.a, they cant do anything about it but may try if they are of a mind to.

if i read right every one on this thread is tiptoeing around badgers!

a snare if it is well set WILL NOT catch badgers as they will pass under it dogs however will. also if you have a snare with charlie in it even thou its leagle people dont take too kindly to seing them bounce around. their was a time when we could use kill poles for this kind of set up on the hill farm i used to work on we had thousands of walkers every year and snareing foxes was the only way to keep up with them we would use kill poles and charlie would be dead in no time we even snared with in 10yards of foot paths and caught them without any one noticeing
