Training on the lamp?

Recommended Posts

thats how i taught mine but kill the rabbit first then sit it up right in field and slip your dog did it a few times and BANG she got that there was something there it works mate stupid as it sounds but like said be carefull!!

That sounds alot better mate, I'l give it ago,

Mate, listen to some of the other lads, in a nutshell its a wank idea, find your dog something to chase, to allow his instincts to kick in. Find a rabbit far out and let the dog use the instincts he has. The dogs drive is triggered by flight of the prey species, having a dead rabbit in a field!!! My bet is you will have to walk the dog to within an inch of it and he will show little interest in the cadaver, get him sighted on something moving and he chase.

a dead pegged rabbit this site just gets better [bANNED TEXT] next i say?

Nutter69.. Bought my dog at 6 weeks, first working dog like i said new to the game and joined THL for advice, without pointing fingers, some people give this site a bad name.

Ashington, it's about 14 miles north of newcastle. You are more than welcome to bring the dog up ferreting or lamping

get oot an learn by yer mistakes

all help is well appreciated i'm trying my best to get him on the bunnies, he's only 8 month and obviously still acts like a pup when out, I.E think's he's out for a shit and piss more than in hunting mode, I've been told as soon as the dog matures it just snaps into them, only concern I'm having is the mrs wont let me have another dog, so need to make sure this one does me justice, took me 5 month to talk her round after the JRT haha. ATB lads and thanks alot,

At 8 months he is still a bit young but like I said you are more than welcome to a bit sport up here, ferreting or lampingthumbs.gif, just remember with him being young not to expect too much as all pups are different

Yeah mate, i know not to expect to much from him, when i've had him out with friends on the lamp, he's been keen as toast to slip when he's slipped his on the lamp, and when i've got him out on the fields during the day and he spots a bunny, he's straight after it, just got to bide my time and put alot of time and effort into him. and they all say you get out the dog what you put in, we bond together well, he wont leave my side and cries when i leave the house, I've got him retreiving a ball and his favourite fluffy toy, and have him doing the basics, sit, here, down etc.. i know he'll do me proud just patience. ;)

Mate at 8 months old he is still just a baby. Dont work him to hard. He is still developing both mentally and physicaly. Bones still fragile etc etc. You can do a lot of damage if you push him to far at this stage. I recomend you just bond and have a bit of fun for now. Get him out ferreting by all means but do your best to net up. Law of averages sais that sooner or later a rabbit will slip the net or pop out of an unnetted hole. Thats when he gets the chance to have a run. Let him experience success with rabbits by "catching" netted ones. If you can get him out with an experienced dog on the lamp then great but i still would let him just watch the experienced one first and even then only let him have one run that first night. So long as he has seen a bit by ferreting and lamping as i just said you can lay him off during the off season and next season he will be ready mentally and physically and after a little bit of getting fit he will be a smasher next season for you.
