You send it together with your variation form

Thanks mate I just wasn't sure as l did think it daft to send it until you knew they weren't going to refuse you...

cheers Callum

No probs Callum ,but send it recorded delivery .My missus forgot this point and posted mine normal. After 2 weeks I phoned to see how it was progressing only to get told it must be lost in the post (major panic) but 2 days later it magically appeared and I was granted my 243 after a 5 minute phone call(although they knocked me down with the amount of ammo I wanted) All the best with your variation mate

I kept mine when I sent the forms off, on the advice of the FEO. Without your ticket you can't buy ammunition remember! My FEO picked up my old ticket when he came for the interview. I had enough ammunition to last, but he would have given me a temporary ticket if I'd needed it.

Speak to your FEO and ask him what's best for them. Remind him that you may need to buy ammunition, especially if the variation is complicated at all.

Also, without your cert, you can't take the guns out anywhere. Well, you can, but if you are stopped with them, and don't have a valid cert, then they will seize the weapons. You should get them back, but I'd rather not have my guns manhandled by coppers who don't necessarily understand that a rifle is a precision instrument, and an expensive one at that!

What are you applying for? It's not usual for an FEO to revisit for a variation. In essence you only have two types of variation and thats a "one for one" or a change of calibre and or additional firearms. For example if you sell a .22rf and wish to replace it, then you fill in your application form (same form as you applied with and you need to fill in *all* parts except referee's and you don't need photos), send the form back with your license and the office will put another .22rf slot back on. This is known as a "one for one". You may wish to have a different calibre, so you might have sold a .22rf but wish to purchase a .222, this will now come down to experience which ultimately is decided by the licensing department, again you would do the same with your license and form both of these type of variations are free. You can apply for an additional "slot" to buy another rifle, this costs but the procedure is the same. The one time an FEO might need to revisit is if your asking for a change of use, for example if your FAC was granted for vermin control but now you wish to go deer stalking, what people do not always understand is that this is treated in exactly the same was as a new application, because in law it is a new application for a grant of different usage, however you do not need references or photos but you will need to submit a new authority to shoot.

Thanks for that Matt that's exactly what l was thinking. I've ordered 1000 primers from my local rfd and am expecting my order to arrive at the end of the week and that should keep me going for a good few months as the last box has lasted me since August. I understand that when reloading primers are the only part of a cartridge you have to show your license for and l have only fired 20 shots out of my rimfire since December as well out of a total of 200 that l have so hopefully l should be ok.

And expanding bullet heads which should be entered on to your license, although not for FMJ heads.

Ah, the reason I had a visit was because I tied it in with a house move, so the FEO came out to check the security arrangements. He still advised that for a variation I should keep hold of my cert.

My variation was to add slots for .243 and WMR.

Sorry John missed this post. I am applying for a .270 calibre in addition to already having .223 and .22 on my license for deer stalking which is already stated on my license. The woman l spoke to on the phone said that since it was such a substantial increase in calibre my feo would have to revisit. Truthfully l don't know if anybody noticed the customised Mauser k98 in .270 that was for sale on gun trader but l just bought that today so now l have to get my variation to actually own it sorted

Yum!

I got re-visited for my variation but I was adding 3 rifles (1 of which was a .243) and conditions for Deer and Fox and the FEO had concerns about space in my cabinet (as I had a 4/5 gun cabinet and 3 guns in there already).

Although he backed down and approved the variation, I did end up replacing the cabinet with an 8 gun.

laugh.gif Just upgraded to a brattonsound 4/5 gun cabinet myself for this variation. When l inherited my rimfire the cabinet l was given with it was a flaming shotgun cabinet that could hardly fit 2 scoped rifles! I kept on scratching my scopes taking them out of it. I'm going to fit shelves into the shotgun cabinet today to turn it into an ammunition store for keeping my ammunition in and my tubs of reloading powder. I just hope l do a good enough job to impress my feo that he'll grant my variation.

all the best Callum
