its at the top of my to do list lol she sits trying to lick them thro the mesh all the time lol will get one out in the garden and see how they get on

keep him on a lead when you do,and scold him if he reracts badly.my old lurcher used to drink from the same bowl as my polecats.

train all my dogs as pups with ferrets and bolting rabbs netted rabbs gives them sense and learns them that you and ferret means sport so they learn to hang about and use there senses even some of my coursing dogs have learnt to ferret well not as nippy as the collie grew type but mark and get difficult netted rabbs etc

Always try to take the dog even leave her in the car till the land owner says yes .One permission where i wasn't allowed the lurcher tells all her mates you want to see this dog marking holes it even ignores her dogs unless they try to touch her rabbits  shes right into my lurcher now and can see how we need them

As Chalkwarren has said....some places its not safe but Ferreting without a marking Dog regardless of what breed is a nightmare

How many times in your younger days before you knew any better have you crawled through Blackthorn Hedges etc....and came out looking like you have done 10 rounds with Freddy Crougar or Edward Scissor Hands only to find nothing is at home :wallbash::wallbash:

How many times did you come across fresh kick out.....fresh shit sometimes even still slightly warm???? you would of put your pocket money on it holding Rabbits but yet again.....NOTHING AT HOME :wallbash::wallbash:

A marking Dog is worth its own body weight in Gold

I take a jack russel and a beddy x whip pup, out this morning first bury no interest from the dogs looked fresh as a daisy, thought I'd give it a go any way, nothing, the pup marked a little 6 holer covered in leaves looked dead, she wouldn't leave the hole, Netted up ferret in 2mins late rabbit out, loads of praise for the pup  . It makes the day watching their reactions, you can't beat the anticapation when the ears prick up, one leg lifts and they start to quiver with exitement.

Yeah I'm pleased with her Whin, she should make a good little rabbiting dog, she's coming on well round the ferrets a bit slower to cotton on to the lamp, but I'm not worried she's still young

I wish the season would go on for a bit longer this year Whin, just so the pup could keep at it for another few months, but with us already catching pregnant does I think we've only got acouple of weeks left with the ferrets. I'll keep her at it with the terrier daytime mooching and a bit of lamping then fish the summer till next season

My brothers got a 4mnth pup who will be out with us now so next season should be a good one.

Good luck with your pup mate, we used to use a collie/ grey when I was a lad she was a real good dog ferreting or nigh time, but like you've said you gotta get the dogs out enough for them to learn

some of our permission wont allow dogs and others are too dangerous to take a dog on but i much prefer it when i can take them both. makes it far more enjoyable.
