why not apply for both fac and sgc then get a 22lr and a .410 moderated then you sorted for rabbits, crows, pigeons,squirrel, dispatch of fox in trap

Yes, thats looking the way forward.

Originally 22lr was our first option, but mostly out of ignorance of what a Shotgun(s) could also do for us.

We need a bigger cabnet!

Does this mean a 3" chamber size will safely take 2" upwards cartridges?

correct, in a 3" chambered gun you can put anything in it up to 3" long (depending on the proofing level) so absoloutely no 3 1/2 magnums

I think there's only one 2" cartridge on the market made by Gamebore....
