yea Big man .Two different dogs ,BUT i think beard by the same man,Cleo was a beautiful bitch, she was the only dog to do her time in waterford way back in early 80s.They where two off the best Heavy dogs, they done what they where bread to DO.GO back and read Mr Cooneys ;) post ,(i.e Jigsaw )Tongs ,Lurchers,&Heavy dogs,Good HUNTING MEN,SPORTSMEN, KNOW THE DIFFERANCE.

Yes no neil personally dug with him for a few years gud man gud dogs doubt he was diggin in the early 80s he not that old .Im a long time diggin id like to think i was also a sports man then some people differ with there variation of sportsmanship yis

I think between the two of us F/man we know what sportsmanship is, Wouldn't it be great to go back to the 70s & 80s and show the youngsters how it was RUN, With out Tongs and LURCHERS.

Their are plenty of youngsters digging now who are a credit to the digging game..There is good and bad in every generation.

over the years ive met many a man that used tongs and none of them were COWARDS,they know more about dogs and working them than most.Neil I find that statement of yours rather silly and condesending.y

Years ago I seen them used regularly and nearly always by cowards. Used quickly they could be humane but they did tend to get over used and misused. They belong on the scrap heap no matter how valubl

No Jigsaw the owners of strongdogs were just that, the owners of strongdogs. Anyone who keeps strongdogs and thinks that the end of a dig is the way to work them is fooling themselves. If a strongdog

young or old,if you got a dog that works and it puts a smile on your face then that is surely good enough.there are plenty of people out there that cannot wait too put a nail in the working dog mans coffin, enjoy it whilst we can.

Years ago we had a couple of different sets of tongs the round end that fit like a collar and a flat set ,but the best was a gadget called a snatcher,it was 100% affective didn't do any harm and made things alot easier to handle for moving and releasing and you could use it 7 days a week 352 days a year it never tired atb

TULLYEYED i never once ran down the young lads that dig and if you go through the thread you will see that.I have already stated that i like to see the younger lads at it and fair play to them, and im not that old either, just got into it very young, though some days after a hard dig i feel old. There is a lad here not far from me 17 and very keen but has bought what was sopposed to be workin terriers and they were shite, paid 500euro for 1 with no come back and that was of a so called big name. Its men like that who will turn the young off.

Have to agree with you.Camera's camcorders even mobile phones should be left at home, too easy for the wrong person to make a mountain out off a mole hill.Ive gone through a lot of dogs down through the years,no pics just memorys even when my dogs got stolen i had'nt one pic of them to put up searching for them.
