Not many around and not to many on here. I know of a few, one has posted above, and has been rather modest. Never have i seen a man venture out as much with his dogs, and runs such a variety of game.

To me the word 'genuine' means everything that Maxhardcore has said but I'd also add, someone who never brags up their catch, who doesn't feel the need to make the 2 hares into 3, or the 15 rabbits i

Proper dogmen are the one's that look good in the field. They wear some real snazzy threads and some fancy shiny shoes.   Like this cat right here.

Not many around and not to many on here. I know of a few, one has posted above, and has been rather modest. Never have i seen a man venture out as much with his dogs, and runs such a variety of game. Dogs which our worked day in day out learn to take all quarry effective, and realise the difference in each animal they course.

Another has just joined but being the dog man he is, i doubt he will ever post, just read and obsorb, learn and laugh..

Dogmen will not hessitate to work alone, will walk mile upon mile, day after day seeing nothing if nessacery, to find that elusive ground.

Once upon, he will share with his closet friends. The ground wil not be battered, afterall he goes out everyday, if not every other, as his dogs are fit enough! He will leave the land to reap, he wont smash it to bits with in a month. He will have enough to go, or find pastures new. door knocking, country laning, petrol station filling, all to work his much loved and cared for animals. The wife comes second, she understands his drive his comitment to his animals. His love of the countryside, the glens, the fields, the walks, scrambling around, looking, foridging. She also learns to love his passion. How can she not, he has found and dicovered places no one ever goes, valleys of sheer beauty. Mainly he admires the game he catchs. Sometimes he wishes it stayed alive, the account and power was so good.

A dog man does more miles in a year than all the marathons put together.

Never a truer post posted on this site.

Men with a genuine love of their hounds and chosen Quarry.

Men who know how to condition their charge to perfection.

Men with Respect for their Hounds, Their Quarry and the Countryside.

Men who know when to say enough is enough.

After all they are flesh and Blood and not Machines.

Every1 has there own opinion on what makes a "genuine dogman" IMHO the lads that are out 4/5 days/night a week and week in week out are in my eyes "true dogmen" as for the lads that nip out the odd night a week for a few runs and the type that joined THL in 2010 and alredy made 500/1000 post non of it helpfull/constructive and 99% of it a load of S*IT there the WANNA-BE "dogmen" ,

spot on mate.. :notworthy:

#1 quarry stick to it dont flip flop, one fox next day motorcycles next day ferretting.

#2 dogs- stick with dont take the easy way { flipping from breed to breed} That is what a dog man is someone who keeps dog at a high level over a period of time-Stunt

It,s really difficult to define ,Personally I don,t think it,s about how good thier dogs are ,or even how much tackle they get , I v met a couple of ,what I consider to be good dog men , over the years and the thing they had in common , was a presence , an aura , call it what you want ,but they had an affinity with thier dogs , a bond , a partnership , and I don,t mean just a well trained dog , but something stronger , as I said it,s really difficult to define , but there is a differance between , a man who likes his dogs and a good dog man .

100% there

I agree with this 100% but to keep them at a truely high level for very long at all is almost impossible. A year or two is the most you will ever get out of any dog. But.......like I always say, anybody is welcome to prove me wrong at any time.

What I ment to say is DOGS not dog ,in the sence of keeping a line / strain, breed at a high level.

But after reading what you wrote I dont agree, Cully,Teddy myself off the top of my head have all kept multiple breeds well over the 1-2 year mark at a high level.

A good dogman will have respect (Something sadly missing in this country IMO) Respect for his dog, his quarry, his catch, the land, the landowner and other people too. If he shows respect he will then earn respect and then when you pass him in the street, you'll know......

Well then like you always say, go do it on the greyhound or race horse track there Mr. High Level.

And dont start this shit about it being two different things cuz you know it aint. High level is high level no matter what game you are playing. You cannot consider young, dumb and lucky or old and washed up "high level". Cant wait til the day somebody shows me high level for more than two years with any dog of any breed.
