donkdaniel 236
Every1 has there own opinion on what makes a "genuine dogman" IMHO the lads that are out 4/5 days/night a week and week in week out are in my eyes "true dogmen" as for the lads that nip out the odd night a week for a few runs and the type that joined THL in 2010 and alredy made 500/1000 post non of it helpfull/constructive and 99% of it a load of S*IT there the WANNA-BE "dogmen" , or the ones that say nice dog just to bump the posts up lol na people that are out there doing it people that look after their dogs better than them selfs people that would rather find a good home for a dog rather than take a wad of cash ive met a few good men Quote Link to post
whin 463
what makes a good dog man simple keep producing decent dogs and keeps decent working animals the rest all comes with it, people who are not afraid to take there dogs out to show freinds mates ,lots on here you could breed good dogs but are wasted as they never see the work to test them nowadays ,ive not met many reall good dog men met men with dogs but not ones that produce and work them hard task to do both a bit of dedicaition Quote Link to post
dave mac 58
The one thing I've seen mentioned a few times is RESPECT, I think this is something which is severly missing in todays world. I'm not particulary old (34) but I had nothing but respect for the old boy's who first took me out with dogs, I listened and didn't pretend I knew it all. They taught me to respect not just the dogs but everything that was involved in running the dogs, the land, the wildlife ( not just what you were going to kill) and each other. I'm now keeping dogs again because I can give the dogs the amount of TIME they need ( I'm bored of going on the p*ss, and would truly rather be out with the dogs) I also want my lad to have/do what I had/did as a kid , unfortunately the old boys that helped me are not well enough to be out anymore . Although I am by no means a "top dogman" I will try to teach my lad what I think is fundamental in being a "top dogman", hunter or person RESPECT I would also add the people I've seen who were good with there dogs and caught a lot of game didn't brag at all........ well said newkid, respect is out the window in this day and age,you will be far better off going out with your lad, show him the right way,far to many in it for the INK these days.
