royal marine 0 Posted January 21, 2011 Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 hi mate good effort on taking her in... there is a couple around here who have ferret rescue and the under nurished ones they take in they feed them thin strips of cooked chicken for a few wks then get them on bigger stuff, put a bit of raw egg in the dish every other day for a wk aswell will soon get back to weight, mine was under the weather and didnt eat for over a wk due to losing his buddy but a bit of time and effort he is back and big... good luck pal Quote Link to post

The one 8,482 Posted January 21, 2011 Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 A year old ferret shouldnt be that thin that you see all the bones .have a good look in the mouth and see theres no a problem like a bad tooth etc ,When you feed her does she eat it no problem at all?. I am housing her with my other jills as i have just got the one hutch. It's big enough being 5ft long with two levels. Feeding her with my other two but a couple times a day i box the other two and feed her on her own with a mixture of mince,egg,ferret paste and milk. I've had her for about 48hrs now and can notice that she is gaining weight. After she has had her fill she messes about for a minute and then hits the bed zzzzzzz!. tubba 38 Posted January 21, 2011 Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 Alright Dazzam, I gave one of last years young hobs to a bloke i know across the street and he had it around four months. I saw him down the pub and he said this hob i gave him kept nipping and he wanted to get rid . So i said i'd have it back. I went to collect it and it was half the size of its siblings it looked really malnourished and underweight . I got him back to mine and fed him on pigeon and within 3 weeks he was the same size as his brothers and the nipping stopped . The poor fu**er was hungry. I saw the bloke recently and he said he'd lost 3 of his ferrets due to the cold weather yet i live across the street and haven't lost any, or showed any signs of losing any . I think its just down to how well you look after your animals and what you feed them ferrets need some meat this time of year. Pigeon all the way for me. Dazzam 239 Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Share Posted February 17, 2011 A wee update of this ferret. Took her out today as she has gained all her weight and is so full of energy. She now looks like a healthy ferret. Anyway the first burrow i entered her was an 8-10 holer. Had to dig one foot where she had one in a blocked end and then she bolted another from the same burrow. The next burrow was a 10-12 holer and after 15 minutes she bolted one from this burrow also. Quote Link to post
