saxonmaster 74
Im thinking about rescuing a whippet x greyhound 10 months old to work with my young colli x grey. stunning dog good basic training, would love to rescue a lurcher in need and hopefully turn it into a good worker/pet. not bothered if it dont turn out to be a world beater as long as it turns out to be a good dog it will be a lifer with me either way. just woundering has anyone else rescued a lurcher from a rescue centre and not know much about the dog and managed to train it into a good worker. thanks for reading. 1 Quote Link to post

matmorgan 49
i rescued one a good few years ago.didnt know anything about the bitch.when i first got her she was a fecking unsteady liability.this bitch wouldnt be trained.i had to earn her trust and come to comprimises with her.think thier was a decent splash of saluki in thier.after a lot of lead work o took her out on the lamp to see if she could do any good.she caught the very first rabbit i shown her.she turned out to be a proper weapon.i am yet to see another dog catch rabbits the way she was so obviously born to do.it took a good two years to get her to work with me.she never retrieved me a single rabbit.she got to the stage where she would bring them to 5 yards put her foot on it and with a single bite to the head kill it and leave it on the floor.i like to think that was her way of letting me know that shes doing with me not for me .i would give my back teeth for another like her and am left wondering to this day if another like her does or will ever exist.i have great memories of a dog from the gods.R.I.P fly.always remembered. saxonmaster 74
thanks for your replies everyone. spoke to rescue centre today but they said they wouldnt rehome a dog if you have kennels in your garden and i kennel my 2 other dogs in them so looks like another dog will be in a rehoming centre a bit longer, shame. wuyang 513
Thats madness, surely not all rescue centres are like this, have you tried http://www.lurcherlink.org/llink/forum/index.php?sid=22bc322dd0c17ac4cb4207778094be0d (loads here) there are 2 sections...Lurcher link homeless hounds and the one below......other homeless hounds. Something i have been considering, i think they get someone to do a home check, but haven't heard anyone mention that they can't be kennelled outside.
