Alf was a true gent and yes he had some cracking dogs, I wonder if he ever regretted selling some picture? He did get a good price, but I heard he regretted it. First got to know him, when he did Lazer treatment on my Whippet X Grey, and yes he was a Gentleman. I heard he got 12k for him. Did you run dogs at Gretna regular? I ran them there from the late ''s up untill a couple of years ago. I heard he was offered 12k but turned it down then was offered 17 and sold it, only what I was told, don't know if its true. He bought it for £7k and sold it for £12k that was believed to be the case anyway, like you say he had quite a few good dogs in his time. Quote Link to post

Could be a proper crank at times & i saw him jack a race at Catford in the Boxing Day Marathon. Amazing dog when he wanted to run, theres been nothing quite like him since. totally agree mate that dog was a freak of nature 100% unique. I was only about 14 - 15 when they were placeing decent bets so i never actualy had more than 50 of my own money on and to be honest i wouldnt know jack about prices as iv never been a betting man myself dont gamble on bandits horses or dogs anymore and when i did gamble the dogs it was a friend betting but i do know the kind of money going on these dogs i remember a brindle dog come over and i was 6 or 7 at the time cost 3k and hit the hair rail on his first trial me grandad put him on the table and stitched him up told me to hold the collar first dog i ever paraded i was about 11 or 12 will a big black dog about 27" or so the worst dog ever i put in a box he used to kick the sh*t out you lol bugger for pissin his bed to the auld C**t. No idea about the gambling of coursing dogs though i hear decent money gans on them but the boys i know involved usualy run for the other blokes dogs mostly travelers i know thats into the saluki types . GET THEM OUT (.)(.) 39 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Share Posted January 20, 2011 my best days was at the tracks, i was still at primary school when i use to go with the local landlord, i was his dog walking lad got paid a 10er a week to excersise 3 greyhounds, use to be sat on the back on the car with the boot open trotting them down back roads, or if he was busy tie all 3 to my handlebars and run them that way by f**k i had some mad moments when hares would run out in front of me, my mum use to go mental for coming in on a weds night/tues morning at stupid oclock, loved everymin, Quote Link to post

AL BUNDY 45 Posted January 21, 2011 Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 a few year ago we had a bet well into the thousands and one of the lads had a fare bit in tick as well,needless to say it didnt get beat, it got f****n destoyed.when i took the dog back to the kennels the trainers wife was at the tally van.she was shouting over how did we do ,this was for so the other customers could here .it was almost worth losing just to see the look on her face when i told her.
