:secret: Shussshhhh

I know of one guy on here who is in the process of doing just what has been requested because people kept on at him to write for the magazines. He's had two other works published and he's also had pictures published on other subjects.

Last time I saw his work it stood at 180 pages. That was about 8 or 9 weeks ago. He tells me he may have it completed some time this Summer B)

I proof read what he has written so far and it's pretty much a no-bullsh!t info from the ground up manual.

No...... I'm not mentioning his name, because I'll get it in the neck from him <_<

But when it's finished, it will be worth its weight in gold from new shooter's to the more experianced among us  it's reminded me of stuff long since forgotten about :icon_redface: as well as taught me some new stuff :good:

Ahem.... *clears throat as he rings me to tell me of this thread*

Gentlemen.

As Si has said already it's s great compliment to be asked to share a skill or knowledge this way but, there are some realistic barriers to consider here. Si clearly doesn't have the time due to his duties as a soldier and his spare time divided between making his DVD films and getting out to shoot and, of course attend to the needs of his family. Nor frankly, do I at the moment with my working life straddling two busy careers in the arts, my family and getting out to shoot on my permissions, keeping the farmers confident in my vermin shooting, or just to get some quiet peace whacking targets with my springers, let alone rabbits etc.

This is not something I can just blithely sit down at a table with and write off the top of my head. I would need to spend time researching what the market demand for this type of work really is, who publishes it? And how well it has been served so far?? Any book I write would have to take a thoroughly fresh, original approach to look over what are fairly well covered subjects already, in order to give it a fighting chance of making it into print.

BUT... It's a great idea, and I do have a fairly good idea as to how I'd lay-out the presentation of the chapters. Clearly there is an interest for this kind of publication and it's worth the time to explore the possibility. And for that reason, I'm going to give it serious consideration. If Si would kindly avail himself as a consultant on certain points, for clarification as a working, practical fact that should hold true, that would be great. An example would be a chapter about current PCP rifles and the tuning opportunities legally open to them. FAC air power is another chapter entirely. I can easily write volumes on the great spring rifles there have been or are as I've owned and shot with most of them but, PCPs I don't know enough about -other than I am certainly one who hasn't been swayed by the myth of their "superior" accuracy.

A lot to do and evaluate. But thanks for the support you good fellas have expressed for such a project.

Personaly I think anoyone considering writing a Airgun book these days is pissing in the wind! ok you'll sell a few but there'll be alot left sitting on the shelves and propping the bed up. there's plenty of info on the Net,DVD's and Forums so why buy a book? most of it isn't rocket science anyway! just use some grey matter between the ears :hmm:.

getting out with somone who been about a bit will also help to teach a thing or too if anyone feels the need........
