johnny boy68 11,726
I've had a few Hancock dogs over the last 20 odd years, they were all decent rabbiting dogs though 1 was exceptional on all pre-ban quarry. The bitch I run at the moment is from a hancock x hancock and I'm very happy with her, would I go to hancock for another .imo theres some exceptional collie x grey's out there and you've a much better chance of getting a worker from a worker x worker.Just like to add its not a done deal when you get a pup out of workers you still need to put the work into any dog........John Quote Link to post

ftm 3,357
me and my mate bought a couple ov dogs off hancock and both were rubbish my mate bought a 3/4 collie greyhound and i got a beardie cross out of some dog called [enoch] mine turned out 26 inches with a head like mike tyson but no heart at all he looked the part but i trained him for foxes [pre ban] he would do them twos up but cocked on them on his own so he went the journey to some lad as a ferreting dog and was shit at that as well!my mates dog grew to 25 inches and had terrible feet by the time it was 18 months and sadly got put to sleep through toes breaking all the time. i have to agree with a few replies tho and say i would advise people to stay clear ov mr hancock and his puppy farm .I ended up breeding my own ist crosses and every one of them were decent dogs Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
I wonder how many of us have had a colliex, then gone and got a hancock x. Or how many have had a hancockx then gone and got a colliex.. As it seems to me that people who have had hancocks get another hancock. They say they are good but have they ever worked with another working colliex.. A colliex (both working parents) will give you 100% all the time. i much prefare the beardie x. I have had the border x and the beardie outshines it for brains and hardness, after all the beardie was bred for moving the stuborn sheep off the fells and mountains that the border couldnt move.. They have a far better coat and will go into any cover, and dont have the skitiness the border has. Plus some borderx can be quite nasty towards other dogs. The only problem in getting a real working beardiex is there arent many left, especially not hancocks. You will find some that are still workered on the cumbrian fells. Any dog that can work them must have the heart of a warrior..Imo. Quote Link to post

ftm 3,357
hows he a nob head? the dog kept breaking its toes every time it went out hunting [even bunnies while ferreting] so was he supposed to just kennel it up for the rest ov its life or pass it on to some one esle dont know where you get the nob head bit from he was a great lurcher lad who loved his dogs it was the best thing for the dog after all the money he had spent trying to remedy the problem 2 Quote Link to post
wheaton x 3
my mate has had hancock dogs for years and i can still say he has owned one of the best rabbit dogs i have ever seen but thats all it was really with the exception of the od hare and roe pre ban .to me they lack bottle and are way to heavy (dogs that is)but i owned a bitch a few year ago and if i kept her she would of made a cracking dog wasnt hard but would hit anything untill backup got there lol but sadly i had to get rid of her because i was working and when i was at work she used to scream all day.but i am a big fan of the collie grey aand im even thinking of putting my bitch to one in the future.atb wx Quote Link to post
