dh90 6
Just wondering what peoples opinions are on baikal over/under shotguns. Im looking for my first shotgun and know someone whos selling an over under baikal 2 barrel set for £250, im going to look at it in the next few day. What do you think of these guns and is there anything to look for when looking at it? Quote Link to post
markha 99
Id say, go to your local gun shop and pick a few up and compare them to some other makes. They are supposed to be solid and reliable bits of kit, However I found the ones I tried were very heavy, and the stocks were made for very large hands, they didnt fit me very well (believe me if they did I would gladly pay £100 for them)In short, solid and agricultural shotgun, perhaps my gun dealer only had a few of this type/model, IM sure others will be along to give better advice on different models. kingnewport 19
I picked up a mint o/u , fixed chokes , single trigger for £150 . I think it's a great gun . Very solid and relieable. There just cheap and cheerfull guns . If you can pick a cheap one up get it Quote Link to post

What do you think of these guns and is there anything to look for when looking at it? I looked at one of these a good few years back when they were first introduced. Wish I had bought it in retrospect. From memory one set of 28" barrels and a skeet set! As has been said not the lightest or best looking but soild and reliable. Quote Link to post

harrycatcat 31
I have had an O/U Baikal with chrome lined barrels for 30+ years faultless, cant think of one bad thing about it This is a link to a picture of mine http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/124790-tips-and-help-for-beginners/ Edited January 17, 2011 by harrycatcat Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
I like mine, my first shotgun so I don't know any better. It's a bit loose on the faces (feel for movement between barrels and stock) but worth the £50 I paid. A lot is made of gun fit, I guess what's most important is that you can comfortably get your eye lined up and you can get in the habit of taking up that position. All other things being equal more weight equals less recoil so it's not always a bad thing. I don't think mine is too heavy. H Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
thanks for all the comments, think im going to see it tomorrow and provided its in good condition ill get it. i started off with the baikal o/u , couldnt fault it, never let me down, Snap. From the description, I think i had the same model as the original poster is on about. Comes with 2 sets of barrels, one was 16inch skeet, other set of barrels was 28inch with tighter chokes for sporting or game. Single trigger, ejector. I bought mine a good few years back now for 100quid 2nd hand. It had seen some serious use, but was still in good working order and very tight. In fact, I think its a baikel thing, as it was tight to open up even after id been using it for a number of years. Both myself & my brother got some serious use out of it before I sold it for £150 to a local gun shop. All in all cracking good value guns. Only thing id say is that £250 does seem a bit steep. My very first gun was also a baikal o/u.....solid reliable gun that never let me down. Probably didnt even get the tlc that it deserved either. Sold mine for 70 quid a few months back.....a nice little bargain for someone. I get yourself off to your local gun shop and see what they have.....be easier to get a fitting and i reckon you could walk out with a gun, slip and a few box of carts' for £250..... The one 8,479
I also started off with one then went back toone after buying a dearer better gun ,i think you cant beat them for shooting rabbits and if they get the odd knock in a hide while your pigeon decoying it doesn't matter too much Quote Link to post

I know what your saying, but when ive been looking on the internet it seem the single trigger over/unders are close to £200 anway, and just thought that getting a gun worth apparently £400 i should get my money back if i dont take to it ?
